John Harbaugh fired by Baltimore Ravens after 18 seasons in charge

Baltimore Ravens part ways with veteran coach John Harbaugh after 18 years at the helm, leaving behind a legacy marked by only moderate playoff success despite a rich history of team ownership.

The decision to dismiss Harbaugh comes as a surprise, particularly given his remarkable tenure that spanned over a decade and a half. In fact, it is ironic that his dismissal occurred against the backdrop of a coaching rival's 19-year milestone - Mike Tomlin of the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Ravens owner Steve Bisciotti expressed his gratitude for Harbaugh's on-field accomplishments and off-field commitment to the community, but also acknowledged the difficulty in making such an important decision. "John has delivered a Super Bowl championship to Baltimore," Bisciotti said, "and served as a steadfast pillar of humility and leadership."

Despite this praise, many will look back on Harbaugh's tenure with questions about his inability to sustain long-term playoff success. The Ravens' 12-year playoff streak began early in Harbaugh's tenure but fizzled out over the past few seasons. Even with two-time MVP quarterback Lamar Jackson leading the team for many years, playoff appearances became increasingly sporadic.

The most disappointing season of Harbaugh's career - marked by an 8-9 record and a missed postseason bid on the final day of the season - may have been the turning point in his relationship with Bisciotti. A three-year contract extension was signed just this past offseason, running until 2028, but it appears that this investment has not yielded the desired results.

While Harbaugh's coaching career continues to write its own chapter, speculation surrounds a possible transition into media analysis. It remains to be seen what the next move holds for the 63-year-old coach, who ranks 12th all-time in NFL head coaching wins, but his legacy as one of Baltimore's most successful coaches will endure.

Man... can't believe they let Harbaugh go 😞. He did lead them to a Super Bowl win and brought so much heart to the city. I get why Bisciotti had to make the tough decision, but it still feels like too soon πŸ€”. The guy's got 18 years of experience under his belt... you'd think that's something to hold onto πŸ’―. Not saying he wasn't making mistakes on the field, but c'mon, Harbaugh's been a staple in Baltimore for so long ⚫️. Now I wonder what the future holds for him... maybe he'll find a new passion in media? πŸ“Ί Either way, it's gonna be tough to see a new coach come in and fill his shoes πŸ‘£.

Can't believe they let Harbaugh go 😱. I mean, he's been there since 2008 and won a Super Bowl 🏈! You'd think that's enough for the Ravens to stick with him. But I guess Bisciotti just decided it was time for change? πŸ€” It is kinda weird that Mike Tomlin got to break his coaching rival's record, though... πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ Harbaugh had some good years, but playoff success wasn't always there. Still sad to see him go πŸ’”

I gotta say, it's about time someone shook things up around that team 🀯! I mean, Harbaugh's been there for 18 years and what do we got to show for it? One Super Bowl ring? Please, Mike Tomlin's been doing just fine for 19 years without any major accomplishments πŸ™„. And don't even get me started on the whole community commitment thing... sounds like a bunch of fluff to me πŸ’β€β™‚οΈ. I'm not saying Harbaugh's bad or anything, but come on, if you're gonna keep him around that long, you gotta see some major results, you know? πŸ€‘

man, i'm kinda shocked they let harbaugh go... he built a strong foundation with that team and had some amazing moments 🀯 like that super bowl win and the 12-year playoff streak was crazy! but at the same time, it's not like he took them to the super bowl every year or anything. maybe they're just looking for a change of pace or something? i don't know, but it's weird since they just gave him a 3-year extension last offseason πŸ€‘ and now they're letting him go... still, gotta respect the guy for his longevity and all the wins he got under his belt πŸ’ͺ

man... harbaugh's departure is a bit of a letdown πŸ€”. i mean, he did lead the ravens to a super bowl and was great for the community. but playoffs have been meh lately. and now he's gonna leave us wondering what could've been. 18 years is a long time to be stuck in neutral, you know? 🚫

anyway, it's time for baltimore to move on. maybe they'll find someone who can bring more consistency. but harbaugh's legacy will live on ❀️. he may not have won many super bowls, but he was always humble and classy. that's what matters most. πŸ‘

ugh gotta say, this is a bummer news... just when u think ur fave team got some stability, they go & drop the coach after 18 yrs πŸ€•. Harbaugh's got a pretty sweet record with that super bowl win but still, can't help feelin he was due for a shakeup... 8-9 record? not great πŸ€¦β€β™‚οΈ. wonder what's next for him tho, maybe he'll make a cool comeback in media πŸ“Ί

πŸ“ŠπŸ’‘ Just did some quick stats and I found out that John Harbaugh has a win percentage of .588 over his 18-year tenure with the Ravens - not bad at all! πŸ€” But, if we look at playoff success, things get a bit murky... πŸŒͺ️ The Ravens have made the playoffs only 5 times since 2012, and their last Super Bowl win was back in 2013... 🏈 What's your take? πŸ“Š

I'm so bummed about John Harbaugh leaving the Ravens... it feels like just yesterday I was watching him lead them to their first Super Bowl win back in 2013 πŸ€”. It's crazy how fast time flies, right? Anyway, I always thought he was a great coach, but now that I think about it, those playoff streaks were kinda short-lived, you know? And yeah, the 8-9 record season in 2021 was a low point... I remember being so disappointed πŸ€¦β€β™‚οΈ. But at least he's getting some love for all his community work and whatnot... that's awesome! And who knows, maybe he'll still end up on TV somehow? That would be cool, I guess 😊. It's just hard to believe this era of the Ravens is coming to an end...

can't believe they let Harbaugh go, he's been with that team for 18 yrs and what do they get? a mediocre playoff run... I mean, don't get me wrong, the Ravens have had some great teams over the years, but Harbaugh just can't seem to sustain it πŸ€”πŸˆ. I remember when he signed that extension last offseason, people were thinking "okay, this guy's gonna be there for a while" πŸ€‘... now it looks like Bisciotti's gotta eat those words πŸ’Έ. Harbaugh might not have won any more rings, but the dude's got integrity and all that jazz 😊... maybe he'll find a new gig in broadcasting, who knows? πŸ“Ί

πŸ€” I feel like Harbaugh got a bad rap, ya know? People are always talking about how he couldn't sustain playoff success, but what if that was just part of the game plan all along πŸ€‘? The Ravens had some amazing seasons, especially with Jackson leading the team, but sometimes you gotta take a step back and re-evaluate your strategy. I'm actually kinda curious to see what Harbaugh does next - maybe he'll find his footing in media analysis like they're speculating πŸ˜‚. And can we talk about how cool it is that Mike Tomlin just hit that 19-year mark? πŸŽ‰ That's some serious coaching dedication πŸ’―

Man, this is crazy! I mean, think about it... Harbaugh was fired after 18 years? That's like, a lot of power for the owner to wield, you know? And what's with that three-year contract extension just before it all went south? Like, what were they thinking? πŸ€” Did Bisciotti really believe he could still bring home more championships? It was always gonna be an uphill battle. And now Harbaugh is gonna transition into media analysis... maybe he'll spill some tea about what really went down behind the scenes in that Ravens organization! πŸ“ΊπŸ‘€
