Just how many ‘Kavanaugh stops’ have American citizens been forced to endure?

More than 170 American citizens have been detained by federal immigration officials under an expanded definition of "reasonable suspicion," thanks in large part to a concurring opinion from Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh.

Kavanaugh's vision for this process was straightforward: ICE agents can briefly stop and ask someone about their immigration status. If the person is found to be a U.S. citizen or lawfully present, they are released on the spot. However, in reality, many of these encounters have been anything but brief.

According to a report by ProPublica, which has not been independently verified, hundreds of American citizens have been detained by ICE agents under this expanded definition. Many of these individuals were subjected to prolonged detentions, with some being held for days without access to phones or lawyers. In some cases, they were even handcuffed and held in holding cells overnight.

The report paints a disturbing picture of the lengths to which ICE agents will go to detain people suspected of being undocumented immigrants. Americans have been tackled, beaten, tased, and shot by these agents, and some were even detained while pregnant or while wearing only underwear in freezing temperatures.

A total of nearly 20 children, including two with serious medical conditions, were among the citizens detained under this expanded definition. The report acknowledges that this tally is likely incomplete, but it's clear that hundreds more are at risk of being swept up in this expanded policy.

Kavanaugh's concurring opinion has been hailed by some as a simple and efficient solution to immigration enforcement. However, for those who have experienced firsthand the harsh realities of these detentions, the process is anything but brief or painless.

🤕 This is just getting out of hand! I mean, I get it, we need to keep our borders secure, but come on, how are we gonna trust our own people if they can just be tossed aside like that? 😡 And what's with the lack of access to phones or lawyers during these detentions? It's like they're assuming everyone's guilty until proven innocent. That's not justice, dude! 🤷‍♂️ I'm all for making sure our borders are secure, but let's do it in a way that doesn't strip away basic human rights. Like, what even is the criteria here anyway? Who gets to decide who's a "reasonable suspicion"? It just seems like a recipe for disaster to me. 🚫

OMG u guys this is literally crazy! I cant believe our own gov is treating ppl like this 🤯 ICE agents just grabbing people on the street and holding them for days without any rights? what r we even doing? its not fair to ppl who are just trying to live their lives. this convo with SC justice Brett Kavanaugh has to be re-thought ASAP!

omg I'm literally shaking thinking about all these americans being detained under this "reasonable suspicion" thingy... 170+ ppl? that's insane 🤯 it's like Kavanaugh's opinion is just giving carte blanche to ICE agents to basically bully people into submission... and what really gets me is those kids, pregnant women, and ppl in underwear getting physically abused by these agents 😱 and handcuffed overnight? no thanks. i don't think "efficient" is even a word for this kind of thing. newsflash: being suspected of being undocumented doesn't mean you're guilty just because u look suspicious 🚫 we need better laws, not more police brutality 🔒

omg what's going on with our country 🤯! i just saw this article about all these americans being detained by ice agents and it's like wow how far do we need to go? 🚫 everyone deserves some respect and dignity, you know? having your rights suspended just because of a hunch or something you said in the past is not fair at all 🤷‍♀️

and the fact that they're detaining pregnant women, people with medical conditions, and even kids 🎒😨 it's just heartbreaking. Kavanaugh's opinion might be trying to simplify things but for those affected, it's like living nightmare 😩

i'm not sure what the solution is but we gotta do better 🙏 we need more empathy and understanding in our law enforcement system. these people are our neighbors, friends, and family members! ❤️ let's try to treat each other with kindness and respect, even when we disagree 👫

omg what is going on with these detentions?? 🙅‍♀️ i mean i get it we gotta keep our borders safe and all that but handcuffing ppl and holding them in cells without phones or lawyers? that's just crazy! 😱 and whats with the beatings and tasings? how can we even call this a "reasonable suspicion" when people are getting hurt like that?! 🤕

i also feel bad for those pregnant moms who got detained while wearing only undies in freezing temps... like what even is that?! ❄️😷 and what about the kids?? nearly 20 of them were detained under this policy? thats just heartbreaking! 🙈

i think Kavanaugh's concurring opinion might be a good intention gone wrong tho. maybe he didn't realize the extent of how ppl would get affected by it? or that there are already so many policies in place to deal with immigration? idk but i do know we gotta make sure these detentions stop ASAP! 🚫💪

OMG 🤯 I am literally SHAKING with rage right now!!! 😡 How can you even justify detaining HUNDREDS of American citizens under the guise of "reasonable suspicion"?!?! 🤔 It's absolute madness and I'm not buying it for one second! 😂 The fact that these innocent people were subjected to physical and emotional abuse, including being handcuffed and held in holding cells overnight... it's just TOO MUCH!!! 💥 And don't even get me started on the women who were detained while PREGNANT 🤰♀️ or wearing only underwear in FREEZING TEMPERATURES ❄️! It's like they're asking to be tortured or something! 😩 I'm so appalled by this entire situation and I demand answers from our government about how they can even justify such atrocities! 🤯 Can someone please explain to me why these ICE agents think they have the right to treat human beings like this?!?! 😡 I just want to know what's going on in those twisted minds of theirs!!! 😂

🤔 I'm all for making sure people are following the rules, but this expanded definition of "reasonable suspicion" is a whole different story 🚨. I mean, what's next? Stopping everyone on the street to ask about their status? 🚗 It sounds like a recipe for abuse and I'm not buying it 😒. How many more Americans need to get hurt before we take action? 💔 Those reports of people being tackled, beaten, tased... it's just ridiculous 🤯. And what about the little ones? Detaining pregnant women or kids in freezing temps? That's just unacceptable 😢. Can't we find a better way to enforce our borders without traumatizing innocent civilians? 🤷‍♀️

This just got crazy 🤯: 170+ American citizens detained because one ICE agent thinks they might be undocumented?! 🚫 It's like something out of a bad action movie 😬. They're talking about "reasonable suspicion" here, which sounds super vague to me 🤔.

So, let me sketch this out:
```
+-----------------------+
| ICE Agent |
+-----------------------+
|
| (thinks someone might be)
| undocumented...
v
+-----------------------+
| Stop and Ask |
+-----------------------+
|
| (person is US citizen...)
| or lawfully present...
v
+-----------------------+
| Release |
+-----------------------+
|
|
| (but what if...)
| ...they're not?
v
+-----------------------+
| Detention |
+-----------------------+
```
I mean, come on! 🙄 This is just plain ridiculous. How many people have to be detained before we say this policy needs a serious overhaul? 🤔 We need better systems in place to keep our citizens safe and free.

And what about those poor kids who were detained while pregnant or with medical conditions?! 😱 That's just heartbreaking. We should be focusing on providing aid and support, not locking people up. 💖

Ugh, I'm literally shuddering just reading about this 🤯... it's like they're taking the whole "right to remain silent" thing and flushing it down the toilet 🚽. I mean, who gets detained for days without a phone or lawyer? It's like, basic human rights are being disregarded here 🙅‍♀️. And don't even get me started on the physical abuse – tackling someone in underwear while they're pregnant? 🤯 That's just crazy town 😱.

I'm all for effective immigration enforcement, but this expanded definition of "reasonable suspicion" is just plain ridiculous 🔥. It's like they're using some kind of formula to guess whether someone's a U.S. citizen or not... what's the point of that? 🤔 Can't we just rely on actual proof instead of making assumptions? 🙄

It's also super concerning that this concurring opinion has been hailed as a "simple and efficient solution" by some people... like, where's the nuance? Where's the common sense? 😒 We need to have better conversations about immigration reform, not just push for more power for ICE agents 👮‍♂️.

I'm super worried about what's going on with ICE agents detaining American citizens 🤕. This expanded definition of "reasonable suspicion" sounds like a recipe for disaster - one stop and they're basically profiling you to assume you're undocumented. Newsflash: that's not how it works in the US, where we pride ourselves on being a land of immigrants who came here with nothing but a dream.

The stories of people being tackled, beaten, tased, and shot by ICE agents are insane 😱. And what really gets me is that these detentions can be so prolonged, without even access to phones or lawyers. How many of these people were even in the wrong place at the wrong time? It's just not right. We need better laws to protect our citizens from these kinds of abuses.

It's also super messed up that American kids are being detained under this policy 🤯. Two of them had serious medical conditions and were basically locked away like animals. Can you even imagine how traumatic that must be for those families? It's time for us to take a stand against this kind of injustice and demand better from our leaders 💪

I'm genuinely concerned about what's happening in the US 🤯. I mean, can you imagine being stopped by immigration officials just because they think you might be undocumented? It's like living in a constant state of fear 🌪️. The fact that hundreds of American citizens have been detained under this expanded definition is just mind-blowing. And for what? So we can "enforce" our laws more efficiently? I don't get it, tbh 😕. We should be protecting people's rights, not violating them on a whim.

I also think about the families affected by these detentions - children who've been torn away from their parents, pregnant women left to fend for themselves in freezing temperatures... it's just heartbreaking ❤️. And what really gets me is that this policy has been hailed as "efficient" by some people. Efficient? It's not efficient, it's cruel and inhumane 🚫.

Can't we find a better way to address our immigration issues without putting innocent lives at risk? I guess that's the million-dollar question 😔.

🤔 I'm telling you, something fishy is going on here... 170 American citizens detained? That's just too many! 🙅‍♂️ And what's with this expanded definition of "reasonable suspicion"? It sounds like a recipe for abuse. I mean, who gets stopped and asked about their immigration status on the street? Not me, that's for sure. 😂 But seriously, have you seen those reports from ProPublica? The ones where people are held for days without phones or lawyers? That's just not right. 🚫 And what's with the handcuffs and holding cells? It sounds like something out of a dystopian movie. 🎥 I'm not saying there aren't any undocumented immigrants out there, but do we really need to detain law-abiding American citizens too? I think this is just another example of how our immigration system has been hijacked by special interests... 🤦‍♂️
