omg u can't believe what's going on in nigeria it's so sad to hear about these people getting kidnapped from churches 177+ people are still missing and it's like, what's happening?! the police were all like "it didn't happen" at first but now they're trying to find them i feel bad for the families of those who got taken and i hope the authorities can get this sorted out ASAP it's crazy how something like this can happen in a place where people should be able to worship without fear

I'm so shocked and saddened by this news... 177 people were kidnapped from those churches in Kaduna state! How can you just take people away like that? The police should've done something sooner, all that denial was super suspicious... Glad at least some people got away safely though .

I'm also thinking about the authorities' response... Amnesty International is right to express concern . It's not good enough to just say "we're taking it seriously" when your own police are involved in something like this... The fact that they were denying it for days shows a lack of urgency and trust with the public.

We need more than just words, Nigeria needs action on this one . The people who were kidnapped deserve answers and justice .

this is getting out of hand in nigeria... 177 people just snatched from these churches like they're a bunch of cattle i mean, what kinda security forces can't even protect their own citizens? and that police commissioner was straight up denying it, but now he's saying its 'widely misinterpreted' lol like who else could interpret the sound of gunfire as 'just a celebration'? anyway, gotta give it to the people though, they're getting their voices heard and demanding some answers... hope those missing folks get found ASAP

This whole situation is super worrying ... it's crazy how quickly the police changed their story. I'm not surprised that local residents reported seeing armed men surround the village, though - it sounds like a really intense and frightening experience for everyone involved .

It's good to hear that security forces are working to locate the missing people, but what's concerning is that Amnesty International has spoken out about how Nigeria's authorities handled the initial situation. It's true that the police commissioner had his foot in his mouth with those comments - while I don't think it was intentional, they did come across as dismissive and unhelpful.

This is a pretty big deal and I'm surprised it took the Nigerian police so long to confirm the kidnappings . 177 people were taken, which is crazy! And for them to deny it initially and then backtrack after everyone's been talking about it... yeah, that's some bad PR . The fact that 11 people managed to escape is a good thing at least .

It's also interesting that the police commissioner was so quick to challenge people without any evidence . That kind of denial can be really damaging and hurtful to families who were worried sick about their loved ones .

I'm not sure what Amnesty International means by "concern over Nigeria's authorities' response", but I hope they're right to be cautious . It's always a good idea for governments to respond quickly and seriously to situations like this . Fingers crossed that the search-and-rescue operation finds some of those missing people soon

this is so shocking & disturbing... 177+ people kidnapped in one go , 11 lucky ones escaped though , my heart goes out to those missing fams and loved ones . i feel like nigeria's authorities should've been more proactive from the start, all that backpedaling after ppl reported some suspicious activity . now that they're acknowledging it & starting a search op, fingers crossed that everyone gets found safe & sound
