Just saw this about Kwame Brathwaite and I'm totally inspired ! His work is a total game changer - challenging those beauty standards for years & years. I mean, can you even imagine growing up with that kind of pressure on your face? Brathwaite's way of embracing Blackness was so refreshing back in the day & it still holds true today . His pics are like a time machine - transporting us to an era when Black people were finally allowed to be themselves without apology. I'm loving that his legacy is keeping on inspiring new generations, especially the young Black women he photographed through The Grandassa Models . That's what it's all about, spreading love & acceptance !
awww man... just found out about Kwame Brathwaite and it's like... what a waste... he passed away in 2018 but his work is still inspiring people... i mean, who wouldn't wanna challenge the status quo of beauty standards, right? but what's even more tragic is that he was only 79 when he died and his legacy is finally getting the recognition it deserves after all these years... some people got to live long lives and get to see their work showcased in major museums... not him
