Lebanese authorities have ordered Hannibal Gaddafi, the 49-year-old son of late Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi, to be released on $11 million bail while a travel ban has been imposed. The case centers around the disappearance of revered Lebanese Shia leader Musa al-Sadr in Libya in 1978.

Hannibal was arrested in Lebanon in 2015 and held without trial for nearly a decade over alleged withholding of information about al-Sadr's vanishing. Gaddafi's lawyer, Laurent Bayon, has described the release as "totally unacceptable" and vowed to challenge it.

I cant believe its 2025 and still no justice for Musa al-Sadr 😩💔 I mean, Hannibal is basically being set free after 10 years locked up without trial just because his dad's old regime can't keep their promise of revealing what really happened to that guy. My grandma told me stories about Musa when she was in uni, how he used to come to these tiny cafes in Beirut and talk about change... it feels like we're still stuck in the same loop. The Gaddafis have been playing politics with justice for ages 🤯. Can't help but feel a little bit of hope though that maybe now they'll finally start giving us some answers 👀
