Florida Sheriff Grady Judd described an altercation at a McDonald's restaurant as a 'McMess' after one of the customers suffered a minor gunshot wound to the neck. The incident occurred last weekend when two men, Nicholas Jones and Peter Story, entered the drive-thru line despite online orders being overwhelming. When told by the worker Yoan Soto that they couldn't take their order due to the high volume of online orders, the two men started threatening him.
According to Judd, Soto appeared on surveillance footage pointing his gun at Jones and Story after he was told not to enter the restaurant. The men allegedly said they would "hang out here" until their shift ended and then attack Soto when he returned to work. They claimed to have a switch or 30-clip, which led to an escalating situation.
The manager intervened and told both men to leave due to trespassing charges being unfounded according to Judd's clarification. However, Jones had argued that only law enforcement could declare him trespassing, which did not apply in this case.
When deputies arrived at the scene, Soto was called back inside with his gun drawn, leading Jones to drive Story to a hospital and call the police. Soto later cooperated with authorities and has been charged with felony tampering with evidence.
Jones and Story have also been charged with trespass after warning and disorderly conduct. Sheriff Judd expressed his frustration with their actions, stating that threatening a mass shooting was never acceptable and emphasizing the need for self-defense rights to be respected but not used as an excuse for violence.
Judd described the situation as a "McMess" but vowed to investigate and bring those responsible to justice, noting that it would have been different if the situation had escalated further.
