New Guidelines Suggest Men Need Twice as Much Exercise as Women to Mitigate Heart Disease Risk, Study Reveals
Researchers analyzing physical activity records from over 80,000 individuals have found that men need twice as much exercise as women to achieve the same reduction in coronary heart disease risk. According to the study, healthy living guidelines should take into account sex differences, with women benefiting more than men from the same amount of exercise.
The findings indicate that for every minute of moderate exercise, a woman would need to exercise nearly half an hour to reap the same health benefits as a man. This suggests that tailored advice and interventions are necessary for both sexes, particularly for men who tend to be less active.
The study highlights the substantial health benefits women can achieve with only moderate amounts of exercise, especially considering globally, one in three women die from cardiovascular disease.
Researchers believe differences in sex hormones, muscle fibers, and energy metabolism may contribute to why exercise appears to benefit women more than men. The study's authors also emphasize that sex-specific strategies should be embedded into guidelines to optimize cardiovascular health for women.
The research emphasizes the importance of encouraging physically inactive females to engage in regular exercise to reduce their cardiovascular risk. As one expert noted, "one size really does not fit all," and it is time to move from conversation to action to develop tailored interventions to optimize cardiovascular health for women.

I'm kinda surprised by this study, ya know? Like, I get that exercise is super important for both men and women, but the fact that guys need way more to reap the same benefits as girls just seems weird.

I mean, don't get me wrong, it's awesome that women can benefit from moderate amounts of exercise and all, but isn't it a bit harsh on dudes? Shouldn't we be trying to encourage everyone, regardless of sex, to get moving?

. I mean, I always knew guys were more likely to be into sports and stuff, but it's surprising how much they need to move their bodies to stay healthy

. . I love that the study highlights how much of a difference it can make for women, especially since one in three of us are already dying from cardiovascular disease

. I feel like we've been stuck in this "one size fits all" mindset for ages when it comes to fitness and health.

It's so important that we're recognizing the differences between men and women when it comes to exercise and health, 'specially with heart disease being such a huge risk factor for women

like if men need twice as much exercise as women, doesn't that just mean we're always gonna be expected to put in more effort to stay healthy?
like if men need twice as much exercise as women, doesn't that just mean we're always gonna be expected to put in more effort to stay healthy? It's crazy how different our bodies are, right? Hormones, muscle fibers... all that stuff affects how exercise impacts our health. And with one in three women dying from cardiovascular disease globally... it's like, we gotta do something about this!

Seriously though, if we want to reduce cardiovascular disease, we gotta take action. And let's be real, who doesn't love exercising? Well, except maybe my grandma after a hip replacement surgery... she's like 'why do I need to run when I can just take a nap?'

Anyway, more exercise for women is always a good thing β and if it helps men get off the couch too, that's just a bonus

. it's time to move beyond generic "exercise for everyone" messages and create strategies that actually work for women. plus, one in three women dying from cardiovascular disease is just heartbreaking
