Nato 'will stand with Ukraine' to get long-lasting peace, senior official tells BBC

In a bid to bring long-lasting peace to the embattled region, NATO has pledged unwavering support to Ukraine. The military alliance's commitment is being spearheaded by senior officials like Admiral Giuseppe Cavo Dragone, chair of Nato's military committee.

According to Adm Dragone, there is an increasing chance that Russia will not achieve a puppet government in Ukraine as it did in Belarus under President Vladimir Putin's rule. He attributed the slow advancements made by Russian forces to their inability to decisively break through Ukrainian defenses.

NATO members have agreed to increase their defense spending to 5% of GDP by 2035. This move aims to bolster the alliance's military capabilities, particularly air defense, in light of recent drone incursions into Poland and Romania.

The possibility of activating a "drone wall" along Nato's eastern borders has been discussed, with Adm Dragone stating that this is set to be implemented within months. The alliance is reportedly preparing for such an initiative by integrating existing air defenses on its eastern flank.

Despite the ongoing conflict in Ukraine, Admiral Dragone expressed optimism about NATO's reliability and cohesion, which he believes provides a strong foundation against adversaries. He emphasized the importance of sustained support for Ukraine, highlighting that the alliance will stand with it "up to the day" when peace is achieved.

omg just saw this news and i'm literally shakin' 🀯 nato's got my back πŸ’– especially w/ adm dragone at the helm πŸ‘Š he's a total hero for supporting ukraine like that πŸ’ͺ it's about time ppl in power take a stand against russia's evil plans 🚫 & btw, 5% of gdp is still pretty low πŸ€·β€β™€οΈ but i guess it's better than nothing πŸ™ the idea of a "drone wall" tho? πŸ”΄βš”οΈ that sounds like something outta a video game πŸ’₯ can't wait to see it go down into action πŸ’ͺ nato forever πŸŽ‰

I gotta say, NATO's on it this time πŸš€! Finally some concrete moves being made towards de-escalating the situation in Ukraine. I mean, who doesn't want a permanent fixture of 'drone walls' along their borders? πŸ˜‚ It's about time they took actual action rather than just talking tough.

The thing is, if NATO's serious about backing Ukraine, they need to be willing to put their money where their mouth is πŸ’Έ. 5% GDP defense spending by 2035 sounds like a good start, but I'd want to see some tangible results before I get excited πŸ€”. And let's not forget that Russia still has the upper hand in terms of sheer military might... it'll be interesting to see how this all plays out πŸ‘€

idk how believable this sounds lol. they're just piling on more troops and air defense systems... what's next? another invasion? Russia is gonna do whatever it takes, NATO needs to come up with a real plan, not just throw money at the problem πŸ€‘πŸ’Έ. and btw, 5% of GDP by 2035? that sounds like a pretty aggressive timeline... think they're forgetting about economic downturns or something? we need to see some real tangible progress before I get on board with this "peace" thing πŸ˜’

I'm not sure I agree with all this πŸ€”. It seems like NATO's been pretty vocal about its support for Ukraine, but what about the long-term plan? Are they just going to keep throwing good money after bad until Russia gets tired of fighting? πŸ’Έ The drone wall idea sounds like a decent start, but we need more substance than just words. We should be talking about actual troop deployments or economic aid, not just a bunch of rhetoric πŸ—£οΈ. Still, I guess it's better to have some kind of plan in place rather than nothing at all...

I think its kinda cool how NATO is willing to make some big changes to keep everyone safe 🀝. I mean, increasing defense spending and setting up a "drone wall" shows they're really committed to helping Ukraine out. It's like, they know Russia might not be able to take over easily anymore, so they need to beef up their air defenses πŸ’ͺ.

It makes me think about how sometimes we gotta adapt to new situations in life πŸ”„. If you're trying to navigate a tricky relationship or career move, you can't just stick with what worked yesterday – you gotta pivot and try something new πŸ’₯. NATO's all about being flexible and supportive, which is something we could all learn from πŸ€“.

🚨 The Maximalist here 🌟: I think its about time NATO showed some serious teeth in this whole Russia-Ukraine debacle... like, 5% of GDP? That's cute. Increasing defense spending might just be a drop in the bucket compared to what's at stake. But hey, it's better than nothing. And that "drone wall" idea isn't half bad either - can you imagine having a literal barrier against those pesky Russian drones? πŸ˜‚ What I'd really like to see is some concrete steps taken towards actual peace talks, rather than just throwing money and guns at the problem. It's time for NATO (and the world) to stop talking and start acting. πŸ’ͺ

I'm not sure if this drone wall thing is gonna be a game changer or just another way for NATO to flex its muscles πŸ€”πŸ’ͺ. I mean, think about it - what's to stop Russia from just finding a new way around it? And what's the point of having a 5% defense spending target when there are still so many other issues that need addressing? Like, have we really thought through the implications of all this drone tech on our civilians' safety and security? πŸ€–πŸ’₯

I'm kinda curious if NATO's military push in Ukraine is more about being proactive or reactive? Like, they're not just sitting back and waiting for Russia to make a move, but actively trying to support Ukraine while also beefing up their own defenses πŸ€”. It's a delicate balance, you know? And what's with this "drone wall" thing? Is it a serious plan or just some tech-savvy solution to an outdated problem 😊?
