California Governor Gavin Newsom sparked a heated exchange with the White House over the temporary closure of Interstate 5 during the US Marine Corps' 250th anniversary celebration at Camp Pendleton. The event, which featured live-fire demonstrations and drew Vice President JD Vance, was met with criticism from Newsom, who deemed it "dangerous" and "an absurd show of force."

Newsom had initially announced that a section of Interstate 5 near the base would be closed during the celebration, citing concerns about public safety. However, the White House quickly disputed these claims, accusing Newsom of distorting the facts. The Trump administration also accused Newsom of being petty and trying to make the issue about himself.

The Marine Corps later released a statement saying that no public highways or transportation routes would be closed during the event. Extensive safety measures were reportedly implemented at the celebration, including detailed risk assessments, emergency crews on site, and fully scripted air, surface, and ground movements.

Newsom doubled down on his criticism, accusing the White House of denying earlier claims that freeway closures would be necessary despite the use of live munitions. He also posted a series of tweets, in which he questioned the administration's motives and accused them of "vanity parades" instead of actually supporting the troops.

The exchange highlights the ongoing tension between Newsom and the Trump administration over issues such as public safety and governance.

OMG, what's going on here 🀯?! So like, California's governor Gavin Newsom is all upset because the White House said he was being dramatic about closing down a section of I-5 during that Marine Corps anniversary thingy πŸ˜’. But honestly, it sounds like they did have some safety measures in place πŸ™... or at least, that's what the Marines are saying 🀞. Newsom just won't let go, btw - he's still going on about how the White House is denying stuff and trying to make a big show out of nothing πŸ“Ί. Can we just keep it civil for once? 😊 The more I hear about this, the more I think it's just another example of politicians playing politics over people's lives πŸ’”.

I'm so down with Gavin Newsom trying to shut down that Marine Corps thing 🀣 he's just looking out for us regular folk who don't wanna get caught in the crossfire of some crazy live-fire demo. The White House is all like "oh no, Newsom's being dramatic" but honestly, can you blame him? I mean, if your grandma was there and got hurt because of a sloppy event, would you be okay with that too? πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ

um so like what is the big deal about a highway closure πŸš—πŸ€” i mean i get that it was the marines' 250th anniversary and all but can't we just have a parade or something instead of, like, blowing stuff up πŸ’₯ and then the president's team says newsom is being petty πŸ™„ which makes sense because why would you wanna close roads when you're not really doing anything bad on purpose πŸ€·β€β™€οΈ i'm kinda confused about what was going on with the tweets too πŸ‘€ can someone explain to me why newsom was so mad at the white house πŸ˜’

man that's wild newsom's all about public safety but kinda sounds like he's trying to get some attention πŸ€” i mean who needs live-fire demos anyway? plus the white house is totally defending the marine corps, can't blame 'em for wanting to honor our troops πŸ™ the fact that freeway closures were a concern in the first place is pretty laughable, though πŸš—πŸ‘Ž guess you could say it's just another day at the office for california governor gavin newsom πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ

omg u gotta believe the drama goin down w/ Gavin Newsom & the White House πŸ€―πŸ˜‚ i mean, its like they cant even agree on a single tweet lol. newsom thinks its all about him makin' decisions 4 public safety, but really hes just tryna get some attention πŸ“Έ meanwhile, the white house is just tryna shut him down like "hey, nope, ur wrong" 🚫 i gotta feel for JD Vance tho, he's just tryin to enjoy a military celebration w/o all the drama πŸŽ‰ and btw, what even is a 250th anniversary party? sounds like some rly big deal πŸ˜…

What is going on with these politicians? Can't they just be honest for once? 🀯 Newsom is basically saying that just because some people might see live-fire demos, that's automatically gonna cause a traffic jam? Like, come on! The White House is trying to set the record straight and Newsom's just being stubborn. And now he's accusing the WH of having "vanity parades" instead of supporting the troops? That's rich coming from him. Meanwhile, I'm sure Camp Pendleton knows exactly what they're doing and the safety measures are in place for a reason. Maybe Newsom should just stick to governing California instead of trying to stir up drama on the national stage πŸ™„

πŸ€”πŸš— what's up with this Cali gov πŸ™„? think he's being a bit too sensitive πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ about the Marine Corps thing πŸŽ‰. newsom says no highway closures, white house is all like "oh yeah?" πŸ™„. guess who's really trying to make a statement here? πŸ“£ not the marine corps or any actual safety experts πŸ’‘... just cali gov trying to get some face time πŸ‘€. can't even agree on what's going down without throwing shade πŸ”₯
