No plans filed for Trump’s new ballroom despite demolition being under way

The Trump administration is moving forward with the demolition of the historic White House East Wing, despite not having submitted plans to the National Capital Planning Commission for the new ballroom project. According to officials, the entire East Wing will be demolished within days, leaving only the structure leading to the new 90,000 square-foot ballroom in its place.

President Trump downplayed the significance of the demolition, claiming that the East Wing was "never thought of as being much; it was a very small building." He further stated that by demolishing the existing structure, they could do it "properly" and build something truly special – a new ballroom that will be "the finest ever built."

However, experts and preservationists are at odds with this decision. The National Trust for Historic Preservation has sent a letter to the White House urging Trump to pause demolition plans due to concerns over the impact on the historic building's classical design.

The administration claims that the destruction of the East Wing is not subject to commission approval, citing differences between demolition and construction work. However, critics point out that this stance contradicts the original promise made by President Trump during his re-election campaign.

As the controversy surrounding the demolition continues to escalate, many are left questioning the administration's motives and priorities. One thing is clear: the fate of the White House East Wing hangs in the balance, with no signs of reversal.

I'm so sad about this 🤕. The White House East Wing has been there for over a century and it's not just any old building - it's got tons of history and beauty. I mean, can't they see how important it is to preserve that? It's not like they're getting rid of it because it's ugly or anything... the problem is, the new ballroom project sounds super fancy but what about all the character and charm that the old building brings? 🤔 It's just another example of how short-sighted our leaders can be when it comes to making decisions about our national heritage. 😕

🤔 I'm low-key shook by this news tbh! Like, what's going on with Trump's admin? First, it was Twitter rants, then it was policy decisions... and now, they're just demolishing a historic building like it's nothing 😱. I get that the East Wing wasn't always thought of as iconic or whatever, but come on, it's still a part of history! And can we talk about how tone-deaf Trump is being? "It was never thought of as much"?! Um, no, Mr. President... it was a significant building with lots of character 🤷‍♀️.

And what's up with the admin trying to claim that demolition doesn't need commission approval? That just sounds like a bunch of hooey to me 👀. And Preservationists are totally on point with their concerns - this is all about the historical significance and cultural importance, not just some random building 🏛️.

Anyway, I'm keeping an eye on this situation... fingers crossed that someone can bring Trump's admin back down to earth 💪. The White House East Wing deserves better than a hasty demolition 🙏.

omg this is gonna be a big mess 🤯 so Trump thinks the east wing was never that important huh? newsflash dude it's been around since 1902 and has some pretty sweet history 😎 and yeah he claims they're doing us a favor by "demolishing" it to build something better... meanwhile we get to enjoy the thrill of watching a piece of american history get torn down 🤪 and the national trust for historic preservation is like "hold up buddy we've got 200+ yrs of history on our hands here" 📚 meanwhile trump's just over here saying whatever he wants and we're all stuck in limbo 😒

😕 this is just wild... i mean, come on! they're literally tearing down part of a national landmark without even getting approval from the people who care about it 🤯. i get that the new ballroom sounds fancy and all, but isn't preserving our history more important than some shiny new building? 🏛️ it's just so frustrating to see old stuff get torn down for 'progress'... sometimes i feel like progress is just a nice way of saying 'we're gonna make a mess and then clean it up, but not really think about the consequences' 😒

I gotta say 🤔... demolishing a piece of history like that just doesn't sit right with me. I mean, this building has been around for over 100 years and it's got so much character 💕. It's not just about the East Wing itself, but also about what it represents - the presidency and American democracy 🇺🇸.

I'm all for progress and change, but there's gotta be a way to do that without throwing out the baby with the bathwater, you know? 😊 The fact that they're saying it's "small" just doesn't add up - I've seen smaller buildings that are still super impressive 🤷‍♀️.

It's also kinda weird that they're doing this behind the scenes and not even bothering to submit plans... like, what's the rush? Are they trying to get something done before the end of their term? 🕰️ It just feels like a power play to me.

omg this is crazy!! 🤯 i mean what's next? demolishing the whole white house?!? it seems like trump is just being super reckless with our history and culture 😩. preserving historic buildings is so important for future generations to learn from and be inspired by. can't we just preserve the east wing in all its glory instead of destroying a part of it? 🤔 i'm literally shaking my head over this one... 🙄

man this is so disappointing... like they just wanna trash an iconic piece of history for a fancy new ballroom 🤯😢. i mean, 90k sq ft is a lot of space but cant it be preserved instead? the east wing has been around since the 1800s and its got some serious historical value you know? not to mention all the important events that took place there... its like theyre just gonna wipe out a piece of american history just for the sake of progress 🤷‍♂️. i hope somone can step in and stop this demolition, maybe theres a way to incorporate the old building into the new design or something 🤔🏠

I'M SO FREAKING OUT ABOUT THIS!!! THEY'RE JUST GOING TO DEMOLISH THE ENTIRE EAST WING WITHOUT EVEN SUBMITTING PLANS???? IT'S A Historic Landmark AND THEY'RE JUST GONNA TEAR IT DOWN LIKE IT MEANS NOTHING??? I MEAN, COME ON PRESIDENT TRUMP, CAN'T YOU SEE HOW MUCH HISTORY IS BEING ERASED HERE?? 🤯🏛️ THE NATIONAL TRUST FOR HISTORIC PRESERVATION IS RIGHT TO SPEAK OUT AGAINST THIS DECISION AND I THINK WE SHOULD ALL BE UPSET ABOUT IT TOO!!!

Ugh, can't believe this 🙄. I mean, come on, demolishing a historic building just because you can't be bothered to get permission? It's like they're trying to make history again... by erasing it 😒. And Trump's excuse about the East Wing being "small" is laughable 🤣 - have you seen those old halls? They're iconic for a reason!

And what's with this "differences between demolition and construction work" nonsense? 🙄 That's just a cop-out. If it's not subject to commission approval, then why did Trump make that promise in the first place? It's all just a big mess. And those preservationists are right on the money - we need to preserve our history for future generations, not tear it down for some fancy new ballroom 🎉. Can't they see how this is going to look when the pics come out? The White House will be looking like some kinda renovation gone wrong...

🤔 I'm literally shocked that they're gonna just tear down a part of the White House without even going through proper channels 🤦‍♀️. Like, what's next? Demolishing the whole thing? 😱 The National Trust is right to speak up and express their concerns - this building has so much history and character! 🏛️ I mean, Trump said it was never thought of as a big deal, but to me, that's just ridiculous 🙄. It's not just about the ballroom, it's about preserving our cultural heritage and being mindful of our national treasures 💕. Can't believe they're putting their own interests over the history of the building 🤷‍♂️.
