Norway's crown princess apologises after pressure over Epstein friendship

Crown Princess Mette-Marit of Norway has issued a "profound apology" to the nation for her three-year friendship with late convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, following an avalanche of scrutiny over their connection. The Crown Princess, who is married to Haakon, Prince of Norway and second in line to the throne, expressed regret for her judgment in a statement released by the palace on Friday.

In the email exchanges made public by the US Justice Department earlier this week, Mette-Marit and Epstein appeared to be cordial friends. The messages dated from 2011-14 showed that she had visited Epstein's Palm Beach house in Florida while he was out of town, revealing a level of closeness that has shocked many Norwegians.

"Googled u after last email," the Crown Princess wrote in October 2011. "Agree didn't look too good." She said her friendship with Epstein was a result of poor judgment on her part and expressed regret for any embarrassment it may have caused to the royal family, particularly her husband.

Marius Borg HΓΈiby, Mette-Marit's four-year-old son from an earlier relationship, is currently on trial in Oslo district court for 38 charges including four counts of rape. He faces a possible jail term of at least 10 years if found guilty.

In response to the Crown Princess' apology, Prime Minister Jonas Gahr StΓΈre said she had "poor judgment" over her friendship with Epstein. The King and Queen, both 88, have chosen not to comment on the matter.

The Crown Princess has been dealing with health issues, including pulmonary fibrosis, for which doctors are preparing a lung transplant. Her son is currently struggling emotionally after his testimony in court, where he was visibly upset as he described being "hassled" by the press since he was three years old.

I'm so proud of Mette-Marit for owning up to her mistake and taking responsibility for it she's showing such courage and humility πŸ’–πŸ™ her apology is a huge step forward, and I hope she can use this as an opportunity to learn from her experiences and grow even more as a person πŸ’ͺ🌟

πŸ˜• I'm shocked that it took this long for Mette-Marit to speak out about her friendship with Epstein. Like, what's wrong with having a friend who's in trouble? It's not like she enabled him or anything... πŸ€·β€β™€οΈ But at the same time, I get why people are upset - 38 charges of rape and assault? That's a whole lot of serious stuff... πŸ™ My heart goes out to her son too, struggling with all that. Maybe this is an opportunity for Mette-Marit to use her platform to bring attention to mental health and how hard it can be for kids like Marius to deal with the media attention... πŸ’–

Ugh this is so sad πŸ˜”... but also kinda hopeful 🌞? I mean, Mette-Marit's apology shows she's taking responsibility for her actions and acknowledging the harm caused, which is a big step. It's not easy to admit when we've made mistakes and let people down. And let's be real, her son Marius needs all the support he can get right now πŸ€—... having to deal with health issues, court drama, and media scrutiny as a kid? That's a tough load to carry.

I'm also thinking about how this could lead to some positive change πŸ’ͺ... like increased awareness about sex offender cases and supporting victims of abuse. It's not all doom and gloom! And hey, at least the royal family is keeping things private for now, no drama or controversy πŸ™. Fingers crossed for Mette-Marit's health and Marius' emotional well-being! πŸ’•

πŸ€” I think Mette-Marit's apology is way overblown. Like, come on, it's just a friendship with some dude who got caught out for doing some pretty shady stuff. It's not like she enabled or funded his illicit activities or anything. And let's be real, most people have friends from their college days that are super weird and annoying, but they don't suddenly become bad news 20 years later. πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ

And can we talk about how this is all being made such a big deal? Like, isn't it just a normal friendship? Why the sudden outrage now when his trial was just over? I mean, I get that her son's involved and all, but I don't think Mette-Marit's apology changes anything. It's not like she's saying she had any knowledge of Epstein's crimes or anything... πŸ™„

Omg I'm like totally shocked about this 🀯 Mette-Marit's apology is so admirable, she's owning up to her mistakes and taking responsibility for them πŸ™ It's not easy to admit to poor judgment, especially when it comes to something that affects the entire royal family. Her son is going through so much right now too, and I hope Marius can get some justice πŸ’• But at the same time, it's hard not to think about all the people who were hurt by Epstein's actions πŸ€·β€β™€οΈ It's like, how could she have been friends with him? Anyway, I just want to see Mette-Marit and her family doing okay, especially with what Marius is going through right now ❀️

omg this is wild 🀯 Mette-Marit's apology is a big deal tho! did u know she visited epstein's pad like 3 times? πŸš€ and she even said her friendship w/ him was due to poor judgment πŸ™ˆ not sure how that's possible, but i guess we can't judge ppl based on past mistakes πŸ˜” btw, have u seen the stats on ppl's perception of royals after scandals? πŸ“Š apparently, it dropped from 80% trust in 2020 to 40% in 2022 πŸ“‰ pretty crazy! πŸ‘€ also, did u know that pulmonary fibrosis is a growing issue worldwide? 😷 pulmonary fibrosis affects ~10 million ppl globally & cost the US healthcare system ~$1.5 billion annually πŸ’Έ

πŸ€” I gotta say, Mette-Marit's apology comes across as a bit late, you know? I mean, she's been friends with Epstein for like 3 years and only now is she speaking out? It feels kinda sketchy. I get that we're all human and we make mistakes, but the fact that her son is on trial and facing serious jail time is just... 😱 I'm not even sure what to think about this. I've been reading about Epstein's case for years and it's just so messed up. I feel bad for Mette-Marit and her family, especially Marius, who's going through all this trauma. πŸ€• It's like, we should be supporting our own, you know? Anyway, I guess what I'm saying is that I wish she had spoken out sooner, but at least she's taking responsibility now πŸ™

πŸ€” Mette-Marit's apology seems kinda late, don't you think? Like, what took her so long to own up to it? And why should we really be surprised that a member of the royal family befriended a convicted sex offender? It's not like Epstein was some sorta hero or something. πŸ™„ I mean, yeah, poor judgment on her part, but I'm sure she didn't expect it to blow up in her face like this.

And can we talk about how this whole situation is bringing attention to Marius' trial and all? It's not fair that his case is getting overshadowed by his mom's apology. πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ The real issue here is the systemic problems that let someone like Epstein get away with what he did for so long.

It's also kinda fishy how Mette-Marit was "shocked" to find out Epstein didn't look good after Googling him in 2011. Like, when have you never checked up on someone before? πŸ€·β€β™€οΈ Anyway, I guess it's better late than never, right? πŸ’”

Ugh I cant even believe Crown Princess Mette-Marit did this I mean I get that we all make mistakes but who knows her or what she's capable of?? Like does she know her son is even guilty?! Marius Borg HΓΈiby is only 4 and his dad is already on trial for RAPING!!! 🀯😱 And then to think that she just casually hangs out with a convicted sex offender like it's no big deal... I mean I get that people can change but Epstein was a total creep dude. πŸš«πŸ’” The fact that he got away with all that is literally horrifying. I need more info about what really went on between Mette-Marit and Epstein, because right now she just looks like she's trying to cover her tracks πŸ€₯πŸ’β€β™€οΈ

I gotta say, I'm a bit surprised that Mette-Marit's apology came so late, especially with her son going through this tough time πŸ€”. I mean, it's one thing to have poor judgment back in 2011, but now she's got a family member on trial and all these extra questions about their friendship... feels like too much pressure πŸ’”.

I do think it's good that she's taking responsibility for her actions though, even if some people are gonna be quick to jump on the bandwagon πŸ€¦β€β™€οΈ. I'm just hoping that this whole thing doesn't overshadow what's really important - Mette-Marit and her son getting the help they need right now πŸ’•.

I think it's also worth noting that maybe we're all a bit too hasty in our judgments, you know? We don't always have all the facts before we start making assumptions πŸ€·β€β™€οΈ. But at the same time, I get why Mette-Marit would want to own up to her mistakes and apologize for any harm caused... it's just the right thing to do ❀️.

OMG u cant believe this!!! 🀯 Crown Princess Mette-Marit apologizing for her friendship with Epstein like how could she? πŸ™„ its not about her being a bad person its more about us thinking shes part of our royal fam now and shes gotta represent that properly lol. πŸ€·β€β™€οΈ I feel for Marius tho his trial is super scary. 😩 My heart is literally breaking 4 him. πŸ’” How can parents just have those kind of relationships with ppl who arent even good enough 2 be around their kids? 🀯 The king and queen should totes make a statement about this btw πŸ‘‘

lol what's next? 🀣 Crown Princess of Norway getting an invite to Epstein's sex offender party πŸŽ‰πŸš« I mean, poor judgment? That's like saying you shoulda Googled that too πŸ˜‚. But for real though, Mette-Marit's apology is a good start, but can't hurt to get some help from those royal therapists βš•οΈπŸ‘‘ And omg Marius Borg HΓΈiby's got a tough road ahead of him, hoping he gets the support he needs 🀞πŸ’ͺ. Guess you could say his mom's trying to move forward too, after that awkward Epstein thing πŸ‘€πŸ’β€β™€οΈ.

πŸ€” just thinkin... Mette-Marit's apology feels kinda late don't know if it'll ever be enough tho πŸ€·β€β™€οΈ she's been dealin with her own health issues and Marius goin through this tough time already... feel bad for the royal family πŸ‘‘ but it's not like they knew about Epstein's dark past back then πŸ€¦β€β™‚οΈ still, gotta give credit to Mette-Marit for takin responsibility for her actions πŸ’― now let's keep an eye on Marius' trial and hope he gets the help he needs πŸ˜•

OMG, this is soooo concerning 🀯! I mean, who wouldn't know about Epstein's super sketchy past? Poor Mette-Marit is already dealing with some major health probs and now she's got this huge royal mess on her hands 😩. Her apology seems genuine though, and 10 years in jail for her son would be devastating πŸ€•. King Haakon shouldn't speak out, tho - it's like he's taking the high road and leaving his wife to deal with it all πŸ‘‘. Can't wait to see how this whole thing plays out... will Mette-Marit get some major scrutiny or is she gonna fly under the radar? πŸ€” #RoyalScandal #MetteMaritApology #JusticeForAll

"Actions may be the ripples that change the pond, but they also attract the attention of others." 🌊 It's clear that Crown Princess Mette-Marit's actions have had a significant impact on her personal and professional life. The fact that she's taking responsibility for her friendship with Epstein is a positive step forward, but it's also a reminder that our choices can come back to haunt us in unexpected ways. πŸ’‘
