Off-duty Texas deputy fatally shoots man allegedly trying to enter car with his small child inside

Off-duty Texas Deputy Fatally Shoots Man Trying to Break into Car with Child Inside

A tragic shooting occurred in Atascocita, Texas, on Friday when an off-duty Harris County deputy opened fire on a man who allegedly tried to break into his car while his young child sat inside. The deputy has not been identified publicly, but he and his child are reportedly safe.

According to officials, the incident took place at around 2:45 p.m. outside the deputy's home after an anonymous tip led law enforcement to the scene. The man, later identified as Darrius Williams, 27, was allegedly trying to gain entry into the car when the off-duty deputy called 911 and reported that someone had a gun on him.

Maj. Ben Katrib said the deputy instructed Williams multiple times to back down, but he ignored the warnings and attempted to open the passenger door of the vehicle while his child was inside. The deputy then opened fire, striking Williams several times before he died at the scene.

First responders provided aid to Williams, but he later succumbed to his injuries at a nearby hospital.

In an interview, Williams' mother Tieneeshia described her son as struggling with mental health issues and having a history of run-ins with law enforcement. According to her, Darrius had been released from jail just one night before the incident after being arrested for walking into oncoming traffic.

The Harris County Sheriff's Office and District Attorney's Office have launched separate investigations into the shooting. The DA's office will present its findings to a grand jury once the investigation is complete, which could determine whether charges are filed against the deputy.

As authorities continue to investigate this incident, it remains unclear if Williams had any concealed weapons at the time of the alleged intrusion or how many times he was shot by the off-duty deputy.

can you believe what happened in texas yesterday ๐Ÿคฏ a guy tries to break into someones car with his kid inside and an off duty cop shoots him... sounds super suspicious to me ๐Ÿ’”, maybe there were other ways to handle the situation without resorting to violence? idk, i'm just trying to process this all ๐Ÿ’ญ

๐Ÿค” This case is really a tough one... I mean, you gotta feel bad for the guy who was trying to break into that car with his kid inside ๐Ÿš—๐Ÿ˜ฑ. But at the same time, it's not like the deputy didn't have every right to defend himself and his family ๐Ÿ’ฏ. The fact that the guy ignored multiple warnings and kept coming at him is just red flag after red flag ๐Ÿ”ด

I don't know if I'd say the deputy overreacted or what ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™‚๏ธ, but it's clear he was in a life-threatening situation and had to act fast ๐Ÿ’จ. It's also sad that Darrius didn't have access to more mental health resources or support systems ๐Ÿค•

I think what's most important here is that we need to keep an open mind about this incident and not jump to conclusions ๐Ÿค”. We need to get all the facts, figure out what really happened, and then have a calm conversation about how we can prevent these kinds of situations in the future ๐Ÿ’ฌ

This just makes me so frustrated ๐Ÿ˜ฉ๐Ÿš” can't believe that someone's desperation led to a tragic death... 27 years old, what was going through his mind? ๐Ÿคฏ and poor mom Tieneeshia is having to deal with this too, it's just so unfair ๐Ÿ™. why did he try to break into the car in the first place? ๐Ÿค” was there no other way out for him? ๐Ÿšซ it's not like the deputy didn't give warnings, but I guess that wasn't enough ๐Ÿ’”. now we're left with questions and a community grieving ๐Ÿ˜ข and of course, some politicians will be jumping on this to try and change laws again ๐Ÿ™„... can't we just have a moment to process instead of using it for another agenda? ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™€๏ธ

OMG ๐Ÿคฏ just heard about this crazy situation in Texas! Like, I'm all for keeping your family safe, but wow, that poor kid could've gotten hurt so badly ๐Ÿค•. And to think that guy Darrius was trying to break into his car with a child inside? That's just not right ๐Ÿ˜ก. I don't know what's more shocking, the fact that he got shot or that he thought it was a good idea to try to break in while there's a kid around ๐Ÿคฏ.

I'm not saying the deputy didn't have every right to defend himself, but you can't help but wonder if there were other ways to handle the situation? Like, did they even think about calling for backup or something? ๐Ÿค” Either way, I hope that child is okay and that justice will be served ๐Ÿ’ฏ. This whole thing just makes me so emotional ๐Ÿ˜ญ.

man this is such a sad story ๐Ÿค• my heart goes out to that little child and their mom tieneeshia sounds like she's been through so much already... mental health issues can be really tough to deal with, i just hope they're getting the help they need ๐Ÿ’ก it's also hard not to think about what could've been if someone else had been there instead of the deputy... but at the same time, glad that both he and the child are safe ๐Ÿ™ it's crazy how quickly things can escalate in a situation like this... just wish everyone involved could find some peace ๐Ÿ’•

ugh man this is like so sad a kid in the car and the dude just tries to break in ๐Ÿคฏ what kinda world is this? i feel bad for the mom tho she's clearly worried sick about her son but like how did it even come to this? mental health issues can be super tough and it's not fair that he got caught up in this situation...

๐Ÿค• this is just heartbreaking... like in 'The Equalizer' when Denzel Washington's character has to make tough decisions to protect people, but that's a whole different story... I don't think anyone wants to be in a situation where they have to shoot someone, even if it's for self-defense. ๐Ÿ™ the fact that this guy was trying to break into a car with a child inside is just insane... and what really gets me is that his mom said he had mental health issues... maybe we could've helped him instead of resorting to something like this? ๐Ÿค” the deputy seems like they did everything they could, but still... it's all so sad...

Man, just saw that crazy story about the Texas deputy who shot a guy trying to break into his car with a kid inside ๐Ÿ˜ฑ #JusticeForDarrius #OffDutyDeputy #TexasTragedy The fact that this guy had a history of run-ins with law enforcement and was struggling with mental health issues makes you wonder if there were other options the deputy could've taken ๐Ÿค” #MentalHealthAwareness #CommunityFirst

I'm just glad to know the deputy and his child are safe and sound ๐Ÿ’•, but it's heartbreaking that this guy had to meet such a tragic end. The DA's investigation will be important in figuring out what happened and if there were any mistakes made ๐Ÿค #AccountabilityMatters #JusticeForDarrius

ugh this is so sad... a kid was in that car with his dad and now that dad is traumatized 4eva ๐Ÿ˜” the whole thing just feels like it could've been avoided if someone had just stayed calm and not called the cops on their own neighbor ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™‚๏ธ but i guess we can't really know for sure what went down yet... hopefully the deputy's child is doing ok too, that's gotta be super tough for them to deal with this all ๐Ÿ‘€

I'm literally shocked that law enforcement didn't just walk away from the situation and let the guy try his luck ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ‘ฎโ€โ™‚๏ธ. I mean, come on, breaking into a car with a kid inside? That's not exactly the most brazen or threatening move. It's almost like they were trying to provoke someone. The deputy's decision to shoot seems so over-the-top to me... and now Darrius is dead ๐Ÿ’€๐Ÿšซ. I don't know, maybe I'm just reading too much into it, but can't we just try to de-escalate these situations instead of immediately resorting to force? ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™‚๏ธ

๐Ÿค• Man, that's just heartbreaking ๐Ÿ˜”. I feel so bad for Darrius and his little one ๐Ÿ™. Can you imagine being in their shoes? ๐Ÿคฏ It's like, what were they even thinking trying to break into a car with a kid inside?! ๐Ÿš—๐Ÿ˜ฑ And to think it was all over a stupid mistake that led to an off-duty deputy having to make the hardest decision of his life ๐Ÿ’”. I hope the DA's office is thorough in their investigation and gets to the bottom of what really went down ๐Ÿค”. One thing for sure, though - law enforcement has got our backs, even if it's a tough one like this ๐Ÿ’•.

omg u no wut kinda crazy situation dis is ?? so like da guy tries 2 break into some1's car w/ a lil kid inside & den da cop shoots him !! i feel bad 4 da lil kid, but at same time i dont blame da cop 4 tryin 2 protect his own & child 2 ๐Ÿ‘ฎโ€โ™‚๏ธ. cant say wut woulda happened if police didnt show up 1st tho ๐Ÿค”. btw i think its kinda messed up dat da guy had a history of run-ins w/ law enforcement...like, why did he even try 2 break into cars again? ๐Ÿ™„

Wow ๐Ÿคฏ This is so sad... like what's gonna happen 2 that kid? ๐Ÿ˜ฑ His mom is saying her son was strugglin with mental health issues... poor guy didn't deserve this ๐Ÿ’”. I feel bad for the deputy too, but at the same time, I don't know if he did the right thing... Investigate more pls ๐Ÿš”๐Ÿ’ก

๐Ÿ˜• this whole thing just feels so unfair to me. i mean, darrius williams had a history of mental health issues and was released from jail just one night before... it's not like he didn't know better, right? ๐Ÿค” but at the same time, you gotta feel bad for the guy who got shot by that off-duty deputy. his child is safe, which is all that matters, i guess ๐Ÿ™. but still, can't we just talk about this stuff without jumping to conclusions and assuming everyone's guilty? ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™€๏ธ i'm not saying the deputy did anything wrong or anything, but it's just so... complicated. and what really bothers me is how quickly everyone's already making that guy out to be some kind of bad guy, like he was asking for it somehow ๐Ÿ˜’. no one deserves to die over a car break-in, period ๐Ÿšซ.

๐Ÿšจ๐Ÿ‘ฎโ€โ™‚๏ธ๐Ÿ˜ฑ this is so sad, a young guy trying to break into a car with his kid inside... poor kid must be traumatized ๐Ÿ˜”. what if he didn't have any guns on him? ๐Ÿค” how many times was he shot before the deputy called 911? ๐Ÿšจ๐Ÿ‘ฎโ€โ™‚๏ธ

i feel bad for the deputy, but also for Darrius' mom who's going thru this ๐Ÿ˜ข. mental health issues are hard to deal with ๐Ÿค—. we need more resources and support for people struggling ๐Ÿ’•.

this incident is really making me think... how many times do we see these situations in the news? ๐Ÿ“ฐ how can we prevent these tragedies from happening? ๐Ÿค”๐Ÿ’ก

Man, this story's like something outta a nightmare ๐Ÿค•. Can't imagine bein' in that situation with your kid inside and some random tryin' to break in... I mean, I get it, safety first and all that, but can't just shoot someone no matter what? ๐Ÿค” The fact that the deputy was callin' 911 like he was in a real emergency when it was really just his car got broken into is kinda wild too. And poor Darrius Williams, had mental health issues and already struggled with law enforcement... it's like he was tryin' to survive on every level ๐Ÿคฏ.

ugh my heart is breakin ๐Ÿค• this is just so sad ๐Ÿ˜ข poor child who didn't deserve to be in the middle of that chaos ๐Ÿšจ and what's even more heartbreaking is that the dad tried to protect his kid but ended up losin' him ๐Ÿ’” can we really say that the deputy was justified in usin' deadly force? ๐Ÿ’” i'm no expert, but it seems like they gave Darrius so many chances to calm down ๐Ÿค and now he's gone. I just hope the deputy gets the support he needs during this tough time because it's clear he's carryin' around some heavy emotions ๐Ÿ˜•

๐Ÿค• man, that's such a tough situation... i feel bad for both the deputy and the kid who was in the car ๐Ÿ˜”. the deputy must've been really scared when he heard someone trying to break into his car with his child inside ๐Ÿšจ. but at the same time, it's not right that guy tried to do that and put his life - and his kid's life - in danger ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™‚๏ธ.

it's just a shame that things escalated so quickly and someone had to get hurt ๐Ÿ’”. i hope the deputy is okay and that he didn't have any PTSD issues from this ๐Ÿ˜•. and as for Darrius, it's a tragedy what happened to him... mental health issues can be really tough to deal with ๐Ÿค—.

anyway, let's just hope this incident doesn't lead to too much drama and that justice is served in the end ๐Ÿ’ฏ๐Ÿ‘ฎโ€โ™‚๏ธ
