A popular running shoe brand, On, is facing a class action lawsuit in the US District Court for the District of Oregon over allegedly defective shoes that produce a loud and embarrassing squeak. The lawsuit claims that the company's CloudTec design causes the issue and several customers who bought affected shoes are seeking damages.
According to the complaint, the squeaking sound occurs when wearers take a step due to the rubbing of rubber within the CloudTec design. The plaintiffs claim they would not have purchased these shoes if they had known about the noise beforehand. Several customers have expressed their dissatisfaction with the shoes on online forums like Reddit, where some have shared hacks for trying to stop the squeaking.
The lawsuit also points out that On's shoes are priced higher than average running shoes, with its CloudTec models retailing between $140 and $180 a pair. The plaintiffs claim that these shoes do not fall under warranty due to normal wear and tear, despite On's alleged description of the squeak as "normal wear and tear."
The class action lawsuit names 11 different types of On shoes made with the problematic CloudTec design. The court claims that it is seeking damages for what are estimated to be thousands of people who bought these affected shoes.
