PETA Seeks to Replace Punxsutawney Phil with Hologram Projection for Groundhog Day
The People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) has sent a letter to the Punxsutawney Groundhog Club, suggesting that it replace its long-standing tradition of featuring Punxsutawney Phil with a hologram projection on Groundhog Day.
According to PETA founder Ingrid Newkirk, this idea would be a "state-of-the-art" 3D groundhog projection that would not only bring an end to the harassment and exploitation of the animal but also offer local weather predictions.
Newkirk expressed her frustration with the current tradition, stating that it is "archaic" and "exploits a wild animal." She argued that Punxsutawney Phil feels fear and discomfort just as humans do and is not a willing participant in the annual spectacle.
By presenting a hologram projection, PETA believes that it would allow Phil to hibernate in peace while still providing entertainment for crowds. The organization has also offered free "Empathy Kits" for those who need a lesson in kindness.

but seriously can u imagine watchin some dude be waved around by a bunch of screaming kids all day 365? sounds like torture fam 
at least with the hologram he can actually relax and enjoy his hibernation vibes but idk if it'd make a difference for phil i mean we still gotta take care of him in real life lol

It's like, no more stressing out poor Phil with all those noise-makers and crowd-movers! And if we get an Empathy Kit to go along with it, that's just pure AWESOME, MAN! 
. Like, what even is the point? The guy's already a captive, so how much freedom does he really get from being a 3D projected image? And those Empathy Kits are just a PR stunt... who's gonna actually use 'em to learn kindness towards animals? It's all just a bunch of fluffy nonsense 
. I'm not saying the current setup is perfect, but at least it's real... you know what you're getting with Phil: a wild animal in a cage. A hologram projection is just a cheap fix for PETA's guilt trip
