I'm like totally confused by the whole Portugal thing 
. I mean, isn't banning face veils just gonna make things worse? It's not like it's gonna stop people from wearing them or anything... that's what education and understanding are for, right? 
I don't get why they can't just focus on the root causes of extremism instead of trying to stigmatize an entire group of people. And €4,000 is like, totally steep fines for something that's not even hurting anyone... that's just cruel 
. Plus, have they considered how this could affect Muslim women in Portugal? Won't it make them feel like they're being targeted or anything? 
It's all so very complicated...

also, how effective are these laws really in stopping extremism? it feels like we're just punishing people for who they are instead of addressing the root causes... and what about free speech? do we have a right to express ourselves however we want, even if it's in a niqab?
