Trump's saying Santos has 'courage, conviction, and intelligence', but let's be real, he's got a rap sheet as long as my arm 
. I mean, 7 years in the slammer for campaign finance stuff seems pretty steep to me...or should I say, Trump thinks it's steep 
. And what's with this 'mistreated while in solitary confinement' thing? Did Trump do some behind-the-scenes investigation or something? 
Santos was all about playing the victim and getting sympathy votes when he was in Congress...now he gets a free pass from the Prez?

I mean, I don't really get why Trump would do this, he's always saying how important it is to follow the rules and respect the law... but then he goes and gives a guy who got caught lying and cheating on people a second chance? It just seems like a weird move. And what's with all these questions about Trump's power to commute sentences? Can't we trust him to make fair decisions? I'm not saying Santos didn't deserve it, but... yeah, this whole thing is leaving me confused
