Protests grow as Iran’s government makes meager offer amid tanking economy

Iran's government has made a meager offer amidst a rapidly deteriorating economy and growing protests. The efforts to contain the economic situation have failed, leading to bolder demonstrations across the country.

In recent days, huge protests have taken place in various cities, including Abdanan, Ilam, Tehran, Lorestan, Kermanshah, Mashhad, Qazvin, Shahrekord, and Hamedan. The protesters, which include children, parents, and elderly individuals, have been filmed walking and chanting in the streets while helicopters flew overhead.

Security forces have responded with force, storming hospitals like Imam Khomeini Hospital to arrest protesters. Amnesty International has condemned this action as a violation of international law and an attempt by the authorities to crush dissent.

Graphic videos have surfaced showing people being sprayed with live fire and killed during protests in Malekshahi county, where multiple demonstrators were shot dead at a military base. The local governor has announced an investigation into the shooting.

In Tehran's Grand Bazaar, traders and business owners clashed with security forces, who used batons and tear gas to disperse the crowd. People chanted "freedom" and shouted "dishonourable" at police officers, including one man who said, "Execute me if you want, I'm not a rioter," to cheers from the crowd.

The Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, has called for authorities to put an end to the unrest, saying, "Rioters must be put in their place." Chief Justice Gholamhossein Mohseni-Ejei echoed this sentiment, stating, "We will show no mercy to rioters this time."

The economic situation continues to deteriorate, with prices of essential items increasing rapidly. The rial has plummeted to a new all-time low against the US dollar, reflecting a lack of trust among the public and investors.

In another bizarre move, the government has introduced cooking oil that has tripled in price, making it unaffordable for many Iranians who have already seen their purchasing power dwindle since 2018. The budget presented by President Masoud Pezeshkian aims to eliminate the subsidized currency rate used for certain imports but is expected to lead to increased prices and pushback from interest groups within the establishment.

Several celebrities, including renowned singers Homayoun Shajarian and Alireza Ghorbani, have joined the protests online, saying they will stop their professional activities in support of the demonstrations. A respected national figure, Ali Daei, called on officials to show sympathy for the Iranian nation, asking, "How can our officials lay down their heads and sleep?"

man I'm kinda sad for Iran right now 🤕😔 they're going through a super tough time with the economy and protests and it's heartbreaking to see all these young people taking to the streets 🌟. but at the same time, I gotta say, I'm a little surprised that the government didn't expect this to blow up like this 🤯. i mean, they've been trying to control prices and stuff for years, so you'd think people would've had enough already 😒.

and yeah, it's super concerning when security forces start using force and arresting people in hospitals 🚑👮‍♂️. Amnesty International is totally right to speak out against that 💯. and it's crazy to see the government trying to blame the protesters for everything 🙄.

anyway, I'm just hoping that things can get sorted out peacefully soon ✝️. everyone deserves to be treated with dignity and respect, no matter what they're protesting about ❤️.

🚨 The situation in Iran is looking more dire by the minute 🕰️. I mean, can you blame them? The government has basically put its foot down on inflation and prices are skyrocketing 💸. People are already struggling to make ends meet after years of stagnant wages and economic stagnation. This latest move with cooking oil tripling in price is just cruel 💔.

It's like the government thinks they're above the law, you know? The Supreme Leader and Chief Justice saying "execute them" like it's no big deal 🤯. Newsflash: killing protesters doesn't solve anything. It only fuels more unrest and makes things worse 🔥.

And let's be real, who are these officials that think they can just ignore the public's suffering? 🙄 Ali Daei is right to call out for sympathy from those in power. It's time for some accountability. The international community needs to take notice too - Amnesty International is on the case and condemning the authorities' actions.

The protests are more than just about economics, though; they're a cry for freedom and basic human rights 🌟. I think it's beautiful to see celebrities like Homayoun Shajarian and Alireza Ghorbani using their platforms to support the cause. Maybe we'll finally see some real change in Iran 💪.

But what's worrying is that things might get even more violent if the government doesn't take drastic steps to address the economic situation 🤕. I'm not saying it's going to be easy, but I think it's time for a complete overhaul of the budget and policies. The people have had enough 😩.

I think this whole situation is super complicated 🤯 and I'm not sure what's going on anymore. Like, one minute the protests are happening and people are really upset about the economy, but then the next minute it's like everyone's just chillin' online with their celebrities and thinking everything will be okay? 💸

I mean, have you seen those videos of protesters getting arrested and sprayed with live fire? That's super not cool 🚫. But at the same time, I think we need to talk about how messed up the economy is and why people are so frustrated in the first place.

It feels like no one really knows what they're doing, you know? The government's making these crazy moves left and right, but it's not like it's going to fix anything 🤦‍♀️. I'm just confused about what's going to happen next... will there be more protests? Will the government crack down harder? Ugh, I don't know 😩.

I guess my point is that this whole situation feels super binary - either we're with the protesters or we're with the government, but can't we just try to find a middle ground for once? 🤝 Like, seriously, who's got time for all this drama?

just saw this news and its crazy 🤯 i mean, iran's government is really struggling right now with the economy and protests everywhere. like, they're trying to contain it but everything is getting worse. its not just people protesting in the streets either, there are even kids and old folks taking part. security forces are responding with force, which is super concerning 😬 especially when you see those graphic videos of people being shot dead. i dont think its a good look for the government at all. and now they're introducing cooking oil that's tripled in price? that just shows how broken their economy really is 🤦‍♂️

Come on guys 🙄, this is getting out of hand! The protests are not just about economic issues, they're also about people wanting a say in how their country is run. The government's response is not exactly what you'd call "reasonable" either... I mean, who gets shot by live fire at a military base? 🤯 It's like the authorities think they can just squash the dissent with force and expect everyone to shut up. Newsflash: that's not how democracy works! 😊 The fact that Amnesty International is stepping in and condemning this violence speaks volumes about the situation on the ground. And what's really worrying is that this economic crisis has been building for years, with no signs of slowing down... it's like they're just kicking the can down the road. By the way, introducing cooking oil at triple its original price? That's just nuts! 🤪

The Iranian economy is a ticking time bomb 🚨📉. The government's inability to manage it has led to widespread protests, with people from all walks of life taking to the streets. It raises questions about the effectiveness of the current leadership and whether they're truly accountable to the Iranian people 🤔.

On one hand, you've got the Supreme Leader calling for authorities to crack down on dissent, but at what cost? The security forces' heavy-handed response only seems to fuel more anger and frustration among the protesters 🔥. It's a classic case of "how do you discipline a society that's already feeling disillusioned with its leaders?" 🤷‍♂️

The fact that celebrities like Homayoun Shajarian have joined the protests online is telling – it shows the power of social media in mobilizing public opinion and putting pressure on those in power 💻. Meanwhile, the government's decision to introduce more expensive cooking oil is just another example of how they're out of touch with everyday Iranians 🤦‍♂️.

It's time for a new approach, one that prioritizes transparency, accountability, and economic growth. The Iranian people deserve better than just empty promises from their leaders 👀.

🤯 I'm totally freaked out by what's happening in Iran right now 🚨. The protests are so intense and spreading fast - it's like a wave of people demanding change and freedom 🌊. I'm worried about the kids getting caught up in all this - seeing those graphic vids of live fire being used on protesters is just horrific 😨.

Meanwhile, the government's response is so heavy-handed and violent 💣. Using tear gas and batons to disperse crowds? That's not how you build trust or calm a situation 🙅‍♂️. And now they're even arresting people from hospitals?! What's next? The economy is already in shambles - do we really need more chaos? 🤯

I'm also feeling super frustrated that the leadership isn't taking this seriously and instead just wants to "put an end" to the unrest 💔. Like, how can you expect people to have faith in your system when they're being sprayed with live fire?! And what about those celebrities who are speaking out? 🤝 It's all so... intense.

I guess what I'm trying to say is that this whole situation just feels super messed up 😩. We need to be supporting the Iranian people, not just watching from afar 👀.

omg this is getting crazy 🤯 i mean, protests are nothing new but the way the gov is handling it now is straight up worrying 💔 especially with all these human rights violations happening - like, spraying live fire on protesters and arresting people in hospitals?!?! that's just disgusting 😷 how can anyone expect trust to grow when they're basically attacking their own citizens? 🤔 and now they're blaming everyone else for the economic mess... it's time for some real change 🔄 i'm sending all my vibes to those brave ppl taking a stand 💖 we should be supporting them, not watching from afar 👀

🤯 This situation in Iran is just getting more outta hand. I mean, tripling the price of cooking oil? That's some messed up economics right there 🤔. Like, who introduces new prices like that without even considering how people will react? It's no wonder they're seeing massive protests and deaths.

I'm worried about the youth, though. Seeing kids taking to the streets for their rights is heartbreaking. How do we hope to build a better future if our next gen is so disillusioned with the system? 🤷‍♂️ And it's not just the economy – it feels like the government is completely out of touch with what everyday Iranians are going through.

It's no wonder celebrities like Homayoun Shajarian and Alireza Ghorbani are joining the cause online. It takes courage to speak out against an oppressive system, especially when you're in a position of power or influence 🙏. And Ali Daei's question is so pertinent – how can we expect our leaders to lead when they don't even care about their own people?

🚨👮‍♂️ This whole situation is super messed up. The protests are getting more violent by the day & it's scaring a lot of people 🤕 But at the same time, you've got to feel for them - they're fed up with the economic situation & the government hasn't been doing enough to help them 💸 The idea that they'd spray live fire on protesters is just, like, insane 😱 And what's with the whole "execute me if you want" vibe? 🤷‍♂️ Can't the police just try to talk some sense into people instead of resorting to force? 🔊 It's not like this is going to solve anything in the long run. The government needs to address the root problems here, not just crack down on dissent 👎

🌟 This is just heartbreaking stuff going on in Iran 🤕 The government needs to listen to its people already 🗣️ I mean, it's not like they're asking for much, just basic human rights and dignity 💖 These protests are happening all over the country, with people of all ages standing up against injustice 🌈 And to make matters worse, the response from security forces has been brutal 😱 The international community needs to step in and put pressure on the government to stop this violence 💪 It's not just about the protesters' freedom, it's also about the economy and the well-being of ordinary Iranians 👍

🤔 this is getting outta hand 🚨 protesters are takin it to the streets & security's gettin heavy-handed 😬 am i right in thinkin these protests wont just fizzle out? 🔄 the economic situation's tanking & ppl r fed up, its like they're tryna pour gas on a fire 🔥 but at the same time, i feel bad 4 those caught in the crossfire 💔 if the government dont do somethin soon, it could get ugly 😳

OMG, this is getting super worrying 🤕! Iran's protests are escalating so fast, it's hard to keep up. I'm seeing so many young people taking to the streets, and they're not just chanting for freedom – they're demanding basic human rights too 💥. It's heartbreaking to see security forces using live fire on protesters, especially when there are kids involved 🤯. And let's not forget about the economic situation – it's like a perfect storm of issues 🔥. The government needs to take responsibility and address these problems ASAP, or things might get even more out of hand 😬. We need to keep following this story and support those who are speaking out for change 💪.
