The ROG Xbox Ally X is a marvel of gaming tech that's sure to leave you breathless - for better or worse. Priced at a whopping £799 (€899/$999/A$1599), this handheld console collaboration between Asus and Microsoft is an expensive proposition, but the power packed into its smaller frame (291 x 122 x 51mm) makes it like nothing else in portable gaming.

Playing indie darlings and massive role-playing games on this device was a revelation - the ROG Xbox Ally X performs incredibly well when it's not finicky. Despite some initial hiccups, including a few user interface issues that interfered with performance, most of them were easily rectified and quickly forgotten once I was deep into playing a game.

The 7-inch, 1080p display on the ROG Xbox Ally X is a visual feast, even without an OLED screen. Games like Hades II launch fast and play perfectly, with beautiful frame rates and virtually no load times. The speakers are also fantastic for immersion, especially when playing titles like Hades II.

But what really sets the ROG Xbox Ally X apart is its game library - leveraging Microsoft's Xbox Play Anywhere initiative means that you can access 1,000 purchasable games across multiple devices, including PC and Xbox consoles, with your progress intact. This makes it an ideal choice for those who enjoy dipping into the Xbox Game Pass library to try out new games.

The ergonomic controller-inspired grips make holding the device comfortable even during longer sessions, although the weight might feel a bit off-putting at first (715g). The battery life is great, lasting around two hours straight with no issue. Although it does get warm during extended play sessions, it's never excessively hot.

In short, if you're in the market for a powerful gaming handheld that can play PC games from your chosen digital store and an impressive suite of Xbox games, the ROG Xbox Ally X is worth considering - even if it comes with a hefty price tag.

OMG u guys this thing is insane 🤯 the ROG Xbox Ally X is like nothing i've ever seen before its so powerful but also so portable idk how they fit all that tech into such a small body lol its display tho is insane 1080p on a 7 inch screen is crazy good and the games run smooth as butter especially with the Xbox Play Anywhere feature it's like having access to like 1000+ games 🤯 i mean i've been playing indie games on my PC but this thing takes it to a whole new level

OMG, I'm so hyped about this thing! 💥 The fact that they're packing all that power into something so small is just mind-blowing... and yeah, £799 is steep, but like, have you seen the specs? 🤯 It's a beast of a device. And I'm totally stoked about the game library - being able to play Xbox games on the go with progress syncing across all my devices? 😲 Game. Changer.

I do wish they'd ironed out some of those UI issues, tho... 🙄 and I'm still not sold on the weight of it... feels a bit clumsy in the hand for me... but overall, this thing looks like a total game-changer (get it?) for portable gaming. 💻

idk about this thing being worth £799... 1k dollars? thats a lot to pay for a handheld console, especially when u can get similar gaming power on ur pc or xbox series x atm. but i guess its good that they're leveraging the xbox play anywhere initiative so u can access all those games across devices 🤔

🤔 I gotta say, this thing's a beast! £799 might be steep for some, but trust me, it's worth every penny 🤑 The game library is insane and having access to 1,000 games across Xbox and PC? Mind blown 😲 Plus the controller grips are so comfy, I was playing Hades II for hours without even noticing the weight 🎮. Battery life's not bad either, lasted me a solid 2 hours. Don't @ me about the UI issues, they're minor and fixed quickly 💻 Overall, if you're a serious gamer looking for a power packed handheld that can give your PC a run for its money, this thing's the real deal 🔥

I'm low-key obsessed w/ this new gaming handheld console 🤩. I mean, £799 is a lotta cash, but trust me, it's WORTH IT! 😅 The games are so smooth and the display is insane. I was skeptical at first about playing PC games on a handheld, but Hades II is literally my fave game EVER! 💥 And the controller grips r so comfy, even after 3+ hours of playin' they don't feel like they're gonna give out 🤪. The only downside is it gets kinda warm during long sessions, but it's not a deal breaker at all 👍. If u r in the market for a sick gaming handheld that can do PC and Xbox games, this is def worth checkin' out 😎

Yooo, I gotta say, this thing is a beast 🤖! £800 might be steep, but for those who are serious about gaming, it's worth every penny 💸. I mean, playing Hades II on the go? That's like, ultimate bragging rights 😎. And the game library is insane - Xbox Play Anywhere is a genius move by Microsoft 🤓. Plus, the controller grip feels so comfy and ergonomic 👌. It might not be perfect (those UI issues were a bummer), but overall, I think this thing's a solid investment for gaming enthusiasts 💪. Bring it on! 😎

I'm not sold on this thing just yet 🤔. £799 is insane for a handheld console, no matter how powerful it is. I'd love to see some benchmarks and reviews from actual gamers before I start drooling over the specs... and what's up with the display? 1080p on a 7-inch screen seems like a compromise - are we really expecting this thing to be a 4K beast in portability form? Also, how does the 'Xbox Play Anywhere' thingy actually work out in practice? Are we talking seamless saves and everything? Need some concrete info here 📊

🤔 I mean, £799 for this thing is nuts, but you have to admit, it's packed with some serious specs. The display on this thing is insane for its size and price point. And I'm loving the fact that it can play all these Xbox games and PC titles - it's like having a mini console and a laptop in one. I'm not sure about the weight and battery life being just okay, but overall, if you're into gaming and want something that can do everything, this might be worth splurging on. 👀

I don’t usually comment but I think £799 is a bit steep for this thing 🤑. I mean, yeah it's powerful and the display is nice, but we're talking about a console that can play PC games too... isn't it just gonna be like playing on your computer or xbox at home?

I'm still trying to wrap my head around the fact that we're getting a full-on gaming console in our pockets now 🤯! £799 might be steep, but I think it's worth it for all the features and the exclusive Xbox library they've got going on. The display is insane, and those speakers really make you feel like you're part of the game 🎮. I just wish they'd sorted out some of those UI issues already... still, 2 hours of battery life isn't bad at all 😂. Anyone else splurging for this thing or am I just crazy?! 💸

omg 799 is insane but like i get why ppl would wanna pay that much for a beast of a handheld 🤯👀, the display is insane and the games are so smooth but idk about the weight tho 715g is a bit much lol, i mean id rather have a lighter device that can still pack some serious gaming punch 💻💥, also 1k+ purchasable games across multiple devices is a huge draw for me but the price is just gonna be too steep for alot of ppl 🤑😐

OMG, this thing is a beast!!! 🤯 I mean, £799 might seem steep but trust me when I say it's WORTH IT! 😂 The power and performance are insane, I've been playing Hades II on this thing for hours and the frame rates are so smooth, it's like playing on my PC! 💻 Also, having access to 1,000+ games from Xbox Game Pass is a HUGE bonus - I've already downloaded some awesome titles like Forza Horizon and Sea of Thieves! 🚗🌊 The only thing that's slightly annoying is the weight and UI issues, but they're super easy to fix. Overall, this thing is a GAMER'S DREAM COME TRUE!!! 😎

I'm stoked to see more console options coming out 🤩. The fact that you can play 1000+ games on this thing is insane! 😲 It's not just for gamers, either – anyone who loves playing new games on the go should be interested in this. 👀

Ummm I dont know about this £799 price tag 🤑...I mean its defo a powerful console but for that kinda cash you'd be buying a whole gaming PC lol 😂...on the other hand, being able to play all those Xbox games and having access to 1,000+ purchases is pretty sick 💸...and the display on this thing is straight fire 🔥, i mean 1080p is not bad for a handheld console right? 🤔 also the controller grips are really comfy so thats a plus 👍...but two hours of battery life is pretty meh for that price, cant see how its gonna be worth it for most ppl 🤑

I don’t usually comment but I gotta say, 999 dollars for a handheld console is crazy 💸! I mean, I get that it's powerful and all, but £799 is still pretty steep for me 🤑. I think the game library is a major selling point though, being able to play Xbox games from your digital store and PC is a huge draw for me 👍. But, I don’t know if I’d be willing to deal with some initial UI issues just to get that price 💻. Maybe it’s worth it for die-hard gamers who want the best of both worlds 🤔.

I'm low-key obsessed with this thing 🤯! The thought of playing all my fave indie games on a portable console that can also play massive RPGs is like something out of a dream 😴. And the Xbox Game Pass library? Mind blown 💥. I love how it's got that ergonomic controller vibe, makes me feel like I'm gaming on the go in no time 🚀. The only thing keeping me from caving in and buying one ASAP is the price tag... but if you're a serious gamer like me, it's worth every penny 💸. Can't wait to dive into some Hades II action on this thing 🔥!

🤔 just £799 for all that power? feels like robbery to me 🤑 but at the same time, 1,000+ games across devices is a game changer 💸 gotta love the xbox play anywhere initiative 👍 battery life is on point too ⏱️ and that display tho 📺 7 inches of gaming bliss

I'm so hyped about this new console 🤩! I mean, who wouldn't want to play their fave indie games or massive RPGs on-the-go? The specs are insane and the display is literally a visual treat 😍. But you know what's even better? The game library 🎮! I love that I can access all these amazing Xbox games with my progress intact. It's like having an entire gaming library at my fingertips (or should I say, in my backpack) 📚. My only gripe is the price tag 💸... £799 is a bit steep even for me 😅. But if you're a serious gamer, it might be worth it. Can't wait to get mine and start playing Hades II non-stop! 🔥
