‘Scary, cold, hungry and lonely’: Volunteer soldier shares experience on front line | CNN

"A Harrowing Reality: Ukrainian Volunteer's Descent into Trauma"

For 19-year-old Akula, enlisting in the war at the start of Russia's invasion was a spontaneous decision, driven by a sense of duty and patriotism. However, what he experienced on the front lines has left him shattered, struggling to cope with the psychological toll of war.

Akula recounts his time as a volunteer soldier, describing it as "scary" and "lonely." He says the constant threat of danger made every moment feel like an eternity, leaving him feeling isolated from the world. The harsh conditions – freezing temperatures, hunger, and lack of comfort – only exacerbated his feelings of despair.

The young soldier's story is a poignant reminder of the human cost of conflict. As he shares his experiences with CNN, Akula openly discusses his struggles with PTSD, revealing the emotional scars that still linger long after the battlefield has fallen silent.

Akula's account paints a chilling picture of the psychological trauma inflicted on soldiers on the front lines. "It was like I was trapped in a nightmare," he says, describing the anxiety and fear that gripped him during combat. The loneliness and isolation were overwhelming, leaving him questioning his purpose and sense of self-worth.

The Russian invasion has left deep emotional wounds for Akula, who now grapples with feelings of guilt, shame, and inadequacy. His experience serves as a stark reminder of the long-lasting impact of war on those involved, highlighting the need for greater support and resources to aid soldiers struggling with trauma.

As Akula's story continues to unfold, it is clear that the psychological toll of war can be devastating, leaving even the bravest warriors shattered by the horrors they've witnessed.

OMG, this is so sad 🤕💔! I mean, can you imagine being in a situation where you're fighting for your country and then coming back to reality feeling like you've lost yourself? 🤯 It's no wonder Akula is struggling with PTSD - the trauma he experienced on the front lines is REAL talk 💯. We need more awareness about this issue and how it affects soldiers, especially young ones like Akula who are barely out of their teens 🙏. They deserve our support and resources to help them heal and rebuild their lives 🌈💪. It's time for us to take a closer look at the human cost of war and make sure we're doing everything we can to protect our soldiers' mental health #TraumaAwareness #SupportOurSoldiers #WarAndItsEffects

I'm literally shook 😱 by this story! 19-year-old Akula's experience as a volunteer soldier in Ukraine is like something out of a horror movie - no wonder he's struggling with PTSD and feels like he's still trapped in a nightmare 😴. It's heartbreaking to think about the emotional scars he's carrying around, and it's so important that we're raising awareness about the psychological toll of war on those who fight it 💔. We need more support for soldiers struggling with trauma, trust me, it's not just about medals or patriotism 🙏. The fact that Akula is speaking out about his experiences is a huge step forward, and I'm keeping him in my thoughts 🤗 #WarAndTrauma #SupportOurSoldiers #PTSDAwareness

💕 oh my gosh i'm literally so sorry to hear about akula's experience 😔 he's such a brave soldier for sharing his story with us, and i hope he gets all the help and support he needs 🤗 it's just heartbreaking to think about what he went through on the front lines ❄️ hunger and lack of comfort can take a toll on anyone, but especially when you're already scared 😨 akula is an amazing reminder that PTSD is real and affects people in so many different ways 💪 we need to keep spreading awareness and supporting our soldiers who are struggling with trauma 🙏💕

OMG 🤯 this guy's story is literally heartbreaking 🙏 I don't think people realize how tough volunteer soldiers have it during wars 💔 they put their lives on the line for others and still deal with PTSD afterwards 😩 it's not just about winning or losing, it's about surviving and coping with trauma 💪 we need to support our soldiers more and provide them with better resources and care 🤝

😕 I feel so bad for this kid, he was just a teenager when he enlisted and now look at him... PTSD is no joke, everyone knows that but sometimes we don't realize how much it affects people until they open up about it 🤕. We gotta do better by our soldiers, get them the help they need before it's too late 💪. It's not like he didn't have a choice or anything, but still, 19 is way too young to go through this... 😔
