Sen. Fetterman shares graphic photo after heart rhythm scare, says doctors ‘put me back together’

Pennsylvania Senator John Fetterman has shared a graphic photo of himself after a fall near his home, which left him hospitalized with a facial injury caused by a ventricular fibrillation flare-up. The image shows 20 stitches across his cheek, taken just two days after the incident.

Fetterman's office confirmed that he was out for a morning walk when he became light-headed, collapsed and struck his face, leading to the fall. His doctors had determined that the fall was triggered by an irregular heart rhythm that can cause dizziness or sudden loss of balance.

The senator was hospitalized at UPMC for observation and medication adjustments before being discharged and returning home. He shared a photo of himself with 20 stitches on social media X, writing "Twenty stitches later and a full recovery, I'm back home." Fetterman thanked doctors at UPMC for putting him back together and expressed gratitude to his supporters for their well-wishes.

The selfie quickly went viral, drawing sympathy and comments from both sides of the aisle. This incident highlights the renewed scrutiny over medical transparency on Capitol Hill, with politicians like Fetterman arguing that being candid about recovery and setbacks can help normalize discussions about mental and physical health in public life.

Fetterman has been an outspoken advocate for mental health awareness since suffering a debilitating stroke during his 2022 Senate campaign. He recently broke with most Democrats to vote with Republicans to reopen the federal government, sparking fresh attention to his health.

😬 This selfie is literally insane... I mean, I get it he's trying to show transparency but 20 stitches is just a lot 🤯! I can imagine how scary that must've been for him & his loved ones 🤕. Glad he's making a full recovery tho 💪. As a parent myself, I'm always worried about our little ones having heart issues or seizures 🙏. This brings up some good points tho - we need to normalize talking about health stuff in public life 🤝. Can't say I blame him for wanting to break the silence around mental health awareness 💕

omg i feel so bad for john fetterman 🤕😩 he's been through so much already like that stroke in 2022 was super scary and now this ventricular fibrillation thingy sounds super serious too... he's always been open about his mental health struggles but i didn't realize it could affect him physically like that 💔 anyway i'm glad he's getting the support he needs from his doctors and supporters 🙏👍 twenty stitches later indeed, wish him a full recovery ASAP 💕

omg wow twenty stitches across his cheek and he's still got it 😂 just kidding kinda... seriously though, glad he's back home tho, that was a pretty intense fall 🤯 anyone else know what ventricular fibrillation is? 🙅‍♂️ just kidding, I'm sure John knows exactly what's going on with his heart 👍 but for real though, it's cool that he's being open about it and taking care of himself 💪 can't wait to see him back in action at the capitol... hopefully not too soon 😉

I'm thinking what's up with politicians sharing their medical stuff on social media? Like, I get it, Fetterman is trying to show that even in public life, you can be open about your struggles, but at the same time... 💁‍♂️ twenty stitches sounds kinda dramatic. Is he trying to draw attention away from some other issue or what? 🤔

🤕 Fetterman's selfie might be inspiring for some, but it's also a reminder that even senators aren't immune to serious health issues 🤕. And who knows how many more flares he had before this incident? The fact that his doctors had to adjust meds just because of an irregular heartbeat is already unsettling... and now we know about the fall itself... 😬 20 stitches, huh? Might be a good idea for politicians to think twice about sharing their health struggles online, but at the same time, it's kinda refreshing to see someone being so open 🤔. Anyway, Fetterman's still recovering, and that's all we can do – wish him well...

I feel bad for Senator Fetterman, dude... 🤕 20 stitches on his cheek? That's crazy! I'm glad he's back home and recovering, but I can imagine how scary it must've been for him and his family 🤯. It makes sense that politicians are talking about mental health more now, though - we need to break the stigma around talking about our struggles 💬. And I have to say, it's pretty cool that he's being so open about his recovery process... maybe it'll inspire others to do the same 🙏.

OMG, can you believe this? 🤯 So Senator Fetterman almost died from a heart thingy 😲 and now he's sharing a pic of himself with 20 stitches on his cheek 💉? Like, I get it, transparency is good and all, but must he share the graphic pics? 🙈 It's just a bit too much info for me. And yeah, I feel bad for him that he had to go through that, but can't he just leave the stitches out of it? 😂

I feel bad for him 🤕... I mean, that's gotta be super scary and uncomfortable 😳. Like, who wants a ventricular fibrillation flare-up? Not me, that's for sure 😅. But at least he's being real about it, which is cool, right? He's not afraid to share his health struggles and stuff 💪. It's good that politicians are talking more openly about mental and physical health - we need more of that conversation 🤝. And, honestly, 20 stitches just looks like a lot 😂... I'm glad he's back home feeling better 👍!

omg can't believe john fetterman shared that pic of himself with 20 stitches 😱 i feel bad for him tho, like he's already been through so much since that stroke in 2022... and now this ventricular fibrillation thingy 🤕 anyway, it's pretty cool that he's being open about his health, even though it makes people scrutinize him more 💁‍♀️ like, isn't that what we want politicians to do? be honest about their struggles so we can support them better? 🤗

omg this is crazy! 🤯 fettman's selfie with 20 stitches is giving me LIFE!!! 💖 i'm not even joking, it's amazing that he's being so open about his recovery and sharing his story with us all... it's like, so inspiring 😊 especially since he's been through something super tough like a stroke 🤕 now we get to see the other side of him too, which is just refreshing 💁‍♂️ can't wait to see what else he shares on social media! 👀

omg this is crazy 🤯 i'm glad he's okay tho but i gotta wonder if sharing that graphic pic was really necessary 🤔 maybe it'll help normalize talking about mental and physical health on the Hill, but at the same time, doesn't it kinda sensationalize a pretty serious health issue? 💉 still super relieved he's back home and all, just wish him a speedy recovery ❤️

He's still got that strong willpower 🤺♂️ after being hospitalized and having those 20 stitches on his cheek. It shows he's not one to back down from sharing his struggles, which is a great way to break the stigma around mental & physical health issues. People need to see that even someone with the power to shape laws can get hurt, but still get back up 💪... and it might be a good idea for others in politics to follow suit 🤝

just saw that Pennsylvania senator john fetterman is back from hospital after falling and getting 20 stitches on his cheek 😬 he's really open about his medical struggles and I think it's awesome, more politicians should be like him 🙌 sharing their own stories can help reduce stigma around mental & physical health issues. now that he's posted the pic of himself with stitches, people are talking more about it than just his politics 🤔

I'm not surprised that Fetterman's medical incident is being scrutinized by politicians... 🤔 it's just another example of how personal lives can be under a microscope, especially for those in public office. It's actually kind of refreshing that he's choosing to be open about his recovery and the fact that he's not hiding behind a facade of "tough senator" persona... 👍 his candor might even help shift the conversation around mental health in politics, although I do worry that it could also lead to more invasive questioning about his personal life. The fact remains, though, that Fetterman is using this experience as an opportunity to raise awareness and normalize discussions around mental and physical health - I appreciate that! 💯

Omg what a crazy fall 😱 that guy is lucky to be alive! I mean, 20 stitches and ventricular fibrillation 🤯, that's no joke. But at the same time, I love how he's being super open about it on social media – it's like, really refreshing to see politicians talking about their health struggles in a non-judgy way 💖. It's like, if we can have more honest conversations about our mental and physical health, that's gotta be a good thing 🤝. And I'm glad he's getting the support of his supporters – it's not just about him, but also about setting an example for others to do the same 💪.
