A devastating balcony collapse in Cincinnati sent shockwaves through the community on Friday evening, leaving at least 10 people injured. The 8-by-12-foot wooden structure, located on a third-floor apartment, came crashing down just before 10 p.m., prompting an immediate response from emergency services.
According to officials, one of the victims is currently in critical condition, while five others sustained serious injuries and four had minor traumas. University of Cincinnati students were among those affected, with some sources suggesting that many were celebrating a big exam that day. "They had a big exam today and they were celebrating," said Cincinnati Police Department Capt. Stephen Bower during a news conference.
Fire officials initially reported that the building in the Corryville neighborhood โ where the balcony was situated โ is home to a significant number of students, including those from the University of Cincinnati. The university has since announced plans to help displaced students find new homes and offer grief counseling to those affected.
However, the circumstances surrounding the collapse are still unclear, with officials citing that there were many people on the balcony at the time of the incident. Investigators are currently working to determine the cause of the disaster, which is under review.
Witnesses described the scene as chaotic, with a balcony lying on the ground and emergency responders working diligently to tend to those injured. The University of Cincinnati has been notified, and officials are offering support to those affected by the tragedy.

I feel for the students at UC, they're already stressed out enough with classes and stuff. Hopefully they can find new homes and get some support. But seriously, what's the deal with these balcony collapses?!
