Summer McIntosh, a 16-year-old Canadian swimmer, has shattered another world record at the country's swimming trials. This comes just days after she broke the previous record for the 400m freestyle event.
On Saturday, McIntosh completed the 400m individual medley in an astonishing time of 4:25.87, surpassing the mark set by Hungarian swimmer Katinka HosszΓΊ at the 2016 Rio Olympics with a time of 4:26.36. This achievement solidifies her position as one of the top young swimmers globally.
This latest feat marks the end of an impressive week for McIntosh, who just broke the world record for the 400m freestyle on Tuesday. She not only surpassed defending Olympic champion Ariarne Titmus' previous record but also achieved a time of 3:56.08, beating her own previous best by a mere 0.32 seconds.
After the conclusion of her swim, McIntosh expressed her emotions, stating that she had vividly heard the crowd for the first time during her race. She attributed her incredible performance to having all her family and friends in attendance, cheering her on, which helped her push through the final stretch.
This remarkable achievement marks a significant milestone in McIntosh's already impressive swimming career. At 16 years old, she made her Olympic debut at Tokyo 2020, finishing fourth in the 200-meter freestyle event. She went on to bag gold medals in the 200m butterfly and 400m medley at the world championships in 2022, as well as two golds at the Commonwealth Games in the 200m and 400m medleys.
Currently training under coach Brent Arckey with the Sarasota Sharks team in Florida, McIntosh is poised to continue her remarkable journey as one of the most talented young swimmers globally.
