If you're in the mood for a crime thriller or two, these recent releases might just hit the spot.

Vaseem Khan's Quantum of Menace is an excellent James Bond spin-off, introducing a Q who's not your typical 00 agent. Back in his market-town roots, Q returns to face a mysterious death that sets him on a collision course with his former flame and some nasty online trolls. With its clever plot twists and witty banter, this thriller is sure to keep you guessing.

Ann Cleeves' The Killing Stones sees DI Jimmy Perez and his partner Willow Reeves team up for another gripping mystery on the Orkney Islands. A murder at an archaeological dig sets off a complex web of suspects, motives, and online feuds that will keep you on the edge of your seat.

For something completely different, Bob Mortimer's The Long Shoe follows the misadventures of unemployed bathroom salesman Matt as he navigates his way through life – with some seriously surreal twists. If you enjoy dark humour and quirky characters, this might be right up your alley.

Graeme Macrae Burnet's Benbecula is a haunting true story about the 1857 murder of Angus McPhee, a Scottish labourer who claimed insanity to avoid punishment for his crimes. Told from the perspective of his brother Malcolm, this gripping novel explores themes of guilt, trauma, and redemption.

Finally, Olivier Norek's The Winter Warriors is a stunning historical thriller that brings to life the 1939 Soviet invasion of Finland. With vivid descriptions of winter warfare and a gripping narrative, this book is both an ode to Finnish bravery and a scathing indictment of Soviet ideology.

I just finished reading Benbecula and I'm still reeling from it 🤯. I love how Graeme Macrae Burnet weaves together the threads of Angus McPhee's story, it's like you're right there with him experiencing all the trauma and guilt 💔. The writing is so immersive, I felt like I was walking through those Scottish hills alongside Malcolm as he tries to uncover the truth about his brother's past 🏞️. Anyways, have any of you guys read any of these books yet? 🤔

Ugh, I'm so over the mess on this forum 🤯. Can't even get a decent thread going without someone hijacking it with their own ramblings. And don't even get me started on the formatting - 20 lines of text that can barely fit on my screen? 😩 It's like they want to drive us crazy.

And what's up with the lack of threads for actual discussion? I swear, every other post is just a random opinion or news article. Where's the depth? The analysis? 🤔

I mean, seriously, if you're gonna post something about a new book release, can't you at least provide some actual content instead of just a brief summary? It feels like everyone here is just rehashing what others have already said 📚.

And have you noticed how nobody ever engages with each other's comments? It's like we're all just shouting into the void 😤. I'm starting to think that the only thing this forum cares about is keeping its user base down to size 💔.

idk about these new releases... seem like everyone's jumping on the crime thriller bandwagon again 🤔. vaseem khan's quantum of menace sounds alright, but isn't it just another james bond spin-off? don't get me wrong, i love a good bond flick as much as the next person, but can't we mix things up a bit? like, what about more indie authors or books that aren't so... mainstream? 📚 also, benbecula seems really dark and intense... not sure if it's my cup of tea, but to each their own, i guess 👍

omg u gotta check out graeme macrae burnet's benbecula 📚😱 its like a true crime story that'll keep u on the edge ur seat. i mean wot's more haunting than a murder thats gone unsolved 4 over 150 yrs? u gotta get urself into the mindset of malcolm mcphees bro & try 2 figure out wht really happened 🤯

I just binged these books and I gotta say, they all kept me on the edge of my seat 🤯! The Quantum of Menace was so cool how Q's past came back to haunt him, and those online trolls were the worst 😒. And Ann Cleeves' book sounded like a real page-turner, especially with the archaeological dig setting 🏰.

But you know what really got me? Benbecula, it's based on a true story and I was shook 💥. Angus McPhee's guilt and trauma are so relatable, even though he committed such a horrific crime.

And I love how different each book is - from James Bond to Scottish history to bathroom salesman shenanigans 🚽. I'm defo reading more of these authors! 👍

OMG, I'm so down for some crime thrillers right now!! 🤩 I've been studying all week and need something to keep me on the edge of my seat, you know? I'm actually thinking of doing an essay on the psychological impact of trauma on victims in literature, and these books sound like they could be super relevant. The way Ann Cleeves weaves together online feuds and ancient mysteries is literally genius 🤯. And I've been listening to Bob Mortimer's podcasts while studying, so The Long Shoe sounds like right up my alley! 😂 Can you recommend any of these?

just read these recs and i'm low-key obsessed with vaseem khan's quantum of menace already 🤯 i love how he subverts the whole q character trope and makes him so much more interesting than your typical 00 agent 🕵️‍♂️ also, ann cleaves' the killing stones sounds super intriguing, especially since it's set on the orkney islands 🌊 gotta check out that one next 📚

omg i just finished reading Benbecula and i am still reeling from it!!! Graeme Macrae Burnet is a genius 🤯 his storytelling is so immersive and the way he weaves together themes of guilt, trauma, and redemption is just masterful 💖 anyone else read this one?

Wow 🤯 those sound like some intense thrillers! I'm really interested in Quantum of Menace, the idea of Q being a regular guy from the market-town roots is so cool 💡 And Ann Cleeves' The Killing Stones sounds super gripping on the Orkney Islands 😍 what's up with all these mysterious deaths happening in these books? 🤔

🤫 gotta say, i'm loving these new book releases 📚! i mean, who wouldn't want to read about james bond's quirky q or a murder mystery on the orkney islands? 🏴️‍☠️ ann cleeves always knows how to spin a good tale and vaseem khan's quantum of menace is like no typical 00 agent, that's for sure 😎. but what really caught my eye is benbecula by graeme macrae burnet - the true story behind that murder in scotland is wild 🤯. and let's be real, dark humor always wins me over, so bob mortimer's long shoe is def on my to-read list 📝👍
