'There's this whole other story': inside the fight to end slavery in the Americas

I'm like totally impressed by Carrie Gibson's latest book! 🤯 I mean, have you ever thought about how slavery wasn't just an English thing? It was everywhere in the Americas, and people from all over were affected. She's really good at highlighting these unsung heroes who fought against it, and it's crazy to think that they didn't even leave behind much of a record. But what she does is, like, totally brilliant! She makes you feel the weight of their struggles and the importance of remembering this dark part of our history. And I'm all about it - if we want to move forward as a society, we gotta confront these issues head-on. 💪

I'm so stoked to see this book getting some love 🤩! I mean, we all know that slavery is a super dark chapter in human history, but it's crazy how much we've been ignoring or glossing over the details. Carrie Gibson is a total legend for shedding light on this stuff and giving us a more complete picture of what was going down back then 💡. And I love how she highlights all the ways that enslaved people resisted and fought back – it's like, we don't have to forget our history, but we also gotta acknowledge the agency of those who were oppressed 🤝. Anyway, if you haven't read this book yet, get on it ASAP! It's like, totally needed for our collective understanding of where we come from 📚👊

I just finished reading this book and it hit me why we always hear about the big names in history but never the ones who were hiding in the shadows 🕵️‍♀️. It's like they say, those who don't learn from the past are doomed to repeat it 😔. The thing is, slavery wasn't just a part of history, it's still affecting us today 👎. If we want to make progress on our current issues like gun violence and racism, we gotta face our past head-on 💥. We need more people like Carrie Gibson who won't be silenced by the gaps in history 📚. She reminds me that even though we don't have all the answers, it's what we do with what we have that matters ⚖️. So let's listen to those silences and learn from them 💬.
