Tim Curry says iconic villain role that slipped through his fingers is one of his ‘great regrets’

Tim Curry, the legendary actor behind iconic roles like Dr. Frank-N-Furter in 'The Rocky Horror Picture Show' and Pennywise in the 1990 miniseries 'It', has revealed that one of his greatest career regrets is missing out on the role of Hannibal Lecter in the 1991 psychological horror film 'The Silence of the Lambs'.

In an interview on the YouTube channel "The Academy", Curry, who turned 79 recently, spoke candidly about the opportunities he lost and the roles he never got to play. He admitted that reading the script for 'Silence of the Lambs' was a turning point in his life, but unfortunately, his agent was unable to secure him a meeting with the film's director, Jonathan Demme.

Curry acknowledged that Tony Hopkins, who played Lecter in the film, did an outstanding job, and he couldn't have been more disappointed. Despite not getting the chance to play the iconic character, Curry has had an illustrious career, portraying memorable characters such as Wadsworth in 'Clue', Long John Silver in 'Muppet Treasure Island', and Nigel Thornberry in the animated series 'The Wild Thornberrys'.

However, there were other roles that slipped through his fingers. For example, Curry was once approached by director Chris Columbus to play Marv, a burglar in the 1990 film 'Home Alone'. Although Daniel Stern ultimately landed the role, Columbus also cast Curry as the Plaza Hotel concierge Mr. Hector in the sequel 'Home Alone: 2'.

Curry has expressed nostalgia for other lost opportunities, including being considered for the voice of Scar in Disney's 1994 animated blockbuster 'The Lion King', although Jeremy Irons went on to play the iconic villain.

Despite the disappointments, Curry remains a beloved figure in the entertainment industry, with his iconic roles continuing to entertain audiences worldwide.

ugh i wonder what life would be like if tim curry got to play hannibal lecter lol 😂👻 he was already sooo iconic in rocky horror anyway but can you imagine him as lecter? 🤔 idk if it would have worked out or not but it's fun to think about. and wow 79 is old! 💡 i had a birthday last year and my grandma told me i looked just like her when she was younger... um yeah no thanks 😂 anyway did you know that disney passed on making the lion king film at first? 🙅‍♂️

idk why tim curry is so sad about not gettin the role of Hannibal Lecter lol he had tons of awesome roles like wadsworth from clue and long john silver from muppet treasure island lol anyway i think its cool that he's still got fans who love him even tho he didn't get to play lecter 🤣

Man... think about all those iconic roles he missed out 🤯! It's crazy to think that Dr Frank-N-Furter could've been so different if only he'd gotten that Hannibal Lecter gig 😱. I mean, can you imagine him in the role? 🎬 But Tony Hopkins did an amazing job and we're all eternally grateful for that 💯. And on a lighter note, it's hilarious to think about him as Mr Hector at the Plaza Hotel... imagine that character 😂. The thing is though, he still had some awesome roles that are so iconic in their own right 🤩. I mean, Wadsworth from Clue? Long John Silver? Those characters are all part of pop culture history 💥. So yeah, maybe he didn't get those other roles, but we're still all about him because of the ones he did do 😊.

can you imagine if he got that Hannibal role? it would've been interesting to see tim curry as a psychopathic genius 🤔...but idk how well he would've pulled it off... maybe he was just meant for other iconic roles like wadsworth or long john silver tho 😎. still, its cool that he's got so many awesome credits under his belt and gets to look back on all the roles he did get...i mean who else can say they played mr hector at the plaza hotel 🏨?

ugh what if he got that role lol wouldve been insane tim curry as hannibal lecter im not gonna lie id be hyped to see him bring that character to life who knows maybe in an alternate universe 🤣

man i feel like tim curry was robbed big time not getting that hannibal lecter role 🤯 he would've brought so much drama and flair to it 😂 anyway gotta give tony hopkins props for owning that role still makes me shiver when i watch "the silence of the lambs" 🎥 what's crazy is all these iconic roles slipping through his fingers still entertaining us with wadsworth & nigel thornberry lol

I'm thinking 🤔 what if Tim Curry got to play Hannibal Lecter? 😱 he would've been perfect for it! But I guess that's hindsight now 😔. The Silence of the Lambs is still an amazing film, and Tony Hopkins did an incredible job 🙌. Curry has had such a long and awesome career though 🎬👏, playing so many iconic characters 💥. It's bittersweet seeing him look back on all the roles he never got to play 😊. The Lion King would've been amazing with Tim Curry as Scar 👑💫. But overall, I'm just glad we get to see his legacy live on in movies and TV shows 📺🎥.

🤔 You know what's wild? Tim Curry was basically born for that Hannibal Lecter role 🧠♂️ and it slipped through his fingers because of timing issues. Can you imagine him playing that character? Mind. Blown 💥. Anyway, did you know that 'The Silence of the Lambs' is one of the most iconic horror films of all time? It's still widely popular today, with a 95% Rotten Tomatoes score 📊. On the other hand, 'Home Alone' grossed over $476 million worldwide in 1990 – that's insane 💸! And let's not forget about Tony Hopkins' portrayal of Lecter... he was absolutely phenomenal 👏. Curry may have missed out on that role, but we got an incredible performance from Hopkins instead 🙌. On a related note, did you know that the average annual salary for actors in Hollywood is around $60,000? 🤑 Yeah, it's not all glamour and glory...

man this is so bittersweet 🤕... can imagine how crazy it must've been for tim curry to be considered for such iconic roles and have them slip through his fingers 🤯 he had some amazing opportunities like playing marv in home alone 2 & scar in the lion king... what could've been, right? 🙅‍♂️ on the other hand, he's still had an incredible career & we got to enjoy so many iconic characters from him... wadsworth, long john silver, nigel thornberry... they're all legends in their own right 😎 still a fan of his work and will always be 💖

.. can you imagine what would've happened if Tim Curry got to play Hannibal Lecter 🤯? The guy's talent and charisma would've made it his own thing for sure. But I guess sometimes these things don't work out, and we're left wondering what could've been 🙏. It's crazy how one opportunity can define an entire career path, you know? Curry's had some amazing roles over the years, but it's interesting to see where he thinks he would've fit in as Hannibal... maybe a more sinister take on things 😏. Anyways, Tony Hopkins nailed that role and made it his own too 👍.

omg i just saw the cutest dog video on tiktok 🐶 and i'm literally thinking about how adorable it is now... anyway back to tim curry i feel bad for him missing out on that hannibal lecter role but he's had so many iconic roles already like wadsworth from clue and nigel thornberry from wild Thornberrys it's crazy how his agent missed the meeting with jonathan demme 🤦‍♂️

and speaking of home alone, i wonder what would have happened if tim curry played marv instead of daniel stern maybe he would've gotten an oscar for that role lol just imagine tim curry in a burglar costume 😂

anyway i'm off to watch some old muppet shows with jim henson's puppetry is still giving me life 🎭👏

ugh what if he got that role lol imagine tim curry as hannibal lecter 😂 that would've been something else but anyway did u know he was considered for scar in the lion king 🦁 he even auditioned and stuff 😔 only jeremy ironss got it tho 🤷‍♂️ at least he had other iconic roles like wadsworth and pennywise 👻

🤔 I'm so over these YouTube interviews where they just rehash old regrets 🙄 like Tim Curry's Hannibal Lecter slip-up. Dude was 79 and still holding onto that one what-if? Meanwhile, we get to see older guys on the forums still trying to make their mark 💪

🤷‍♂️ cant believe tim curry never got to play hannibal lecter 🎬😱 he wouldve been sooo good at it 💀👍 1991 was a big year for horror movies and that film wouldve been epic with him as lecter 📺💫

🌞 I feel bad for Tim Curry, but I think it's awesome that he gets to look back and see all the amazing roles he did get to play! I mean, who wouldn't want to be Wadsworth in Clue or Long John Silver in Muppet Treasure Island? 😆 And let's not forget about The Wild Thornberrys - he was so good as Nigel Thornberry that it's hard to imagine anyone else in the role! 🐒

It's also super interesting to see how Curry's career has had its ups and downs. Missing out on Hannibal Lecter might be a regret, but he's still played some of the most iconic characters in movie history! And can you believe he was even considered for Scar in The Lion King? That's just crazy talk! 🦁

I think what I love most about Curry is that he's not bitter about it all. He's just happy to have had the career he did and to have brought so much joy to people through his acting. And let's be real, who wouldn't want to play a role in The Silence of the Lambs? That's just like, the ultimate horror movie experience! 😱

I feel so bad for Tim Curry, you know? He was born to play Hannibal Lecter 🤕! I mean, can you imagine anyone else bringing that level of sophistication and menace to the role? Tony Hopkins did an amazing job, but it's hard not to wonder what could've been. And it's crazy to think about all the other roles he turned down, like Marv in Home Alone 😂! Chris Columbus was a genius for casting him as Mr. Hector, though! Those are the kinds of nostalgic feels that make me go "what if? 🤔" anyway
