Tip on GoFundMe leads to arrest of suspect in deadly 2017 Arizona stabbing

A Tip on GoFundMe Campaign Helps Authorities Crack Deadly 2017 Arizona Stabbing Case

An anonymous tip sent to a GoFundMe campaign in September has led to the arrest of Michael Anthony Arredondo, the prime suspect in a deadly stabbing that took place in 2017. The victim, Evin Paulos, was found with over 30 stab wounds in a desert area about 10 miles from his neighborhood.

According to court records reviewed by investigators, Paulos's body was discovered on June 3, 2017, just days after he had gone into the hospital for treatment after a fight with Arredondo. The two men had previously lived across the street from each other and had become friends before their relationship soured.

Arredondo, 34, is accused of stabbing Paulos multiple times before killing him in Mexico, where the two were traveling together at the time of the incident. He was arrested on October 15 after Mexican officials collaborated with US authorities to bring him back to face charges.

Paulos's family had launched a GoFundMe campaign to raise money for his funeral expenses, and it was this campaign that received the anonymous tip about Arredondo's location. The tipster sent a picture of Arredondo to Paulos's sister, Eviein, who reported that she replied with a message asking for evidence.

According to Phoenix police detective Dominick Rostenberg, Arredondo has confessed to the murder but stopped short of explaining what motivated him to kill Paulos or why he stabbed him so many times. The arrest has brought closure to Paulos's family and colleagues, who had been searching for justice for over eight years.

Ugh, this whole thing is just a mess 🤯. I mean, who starts a GoFundMe campaign for their own funeral, right? It's like they knew something was up from the start. And now that it's all out, can you believe Arredondo confessed to the murder but won't give any real details about why he did it? Sounds like a classic case of "I'm guilty, but I'm not telling". And what's with the tipster being anonymous? Were they just trying to cover their own tracks or something? It's all so suspicious... 🤔

OMG, like I know some ppl might be all upset about this GoFundMe campaign being used as evidence, but tbh, it's kinda genius how it worked out 🤔. The anonymous tip was the break they needed in a case that had been cold for so long, and now justice can finally be served 💯. It just goes to show that even the most unlikely places can lead to important info being shared. I'm not saying Arredondo's actions were okay or anything, but it's all about finding closure for those affected, right? 😊

🙏 That's such a relief for his family... I mean, they've been searching for answers for 8 whole years! 🤯 It's crazy that the tipster just sent that anonymous message to Paulos's sister, and it was enough to bring Arredondo in. 😮 The detective's statement that he confessed but not why he did it is still super suspicious... what if there's more to it than we know? 🤔

omg can u believe this is happening? 🤯 a gofundme campaign created by evin's fam was the key to cracking this super heinous case! i mean, it's crazy that they were able to raise money for her funeral and at the same time help solve the mystery of what happened to her bro. its so amazing how technology can be used for good like this! 🤩 also gotta feel bad for evin's family, they've been searching for justice for 8 years lol thats a long time 💔

Just heard about this crazy case where some dude stabs his friend 30 times in Mexico and then gets caught thanks to a GoFundMe campaign lol 🤯👮‍♂️ I mean, what's the deal with that? How does a charity fund for a funeral turn into an anonymous tip that leads to a murder arrest? 😲 Anyway, glad justice was served after 8 years, hope Paulos's family gets some closure 👍

just heard this crazy news about that guy on GoFundMe who helped catch the Arizona stabbing suspect 😲 I mean, what a perfect example of how social media can be used for good 🤝 like, people always talk about the dark side of online fundraising, but in this case it's literally helped bring a killer to justice 🚔. And 8 years of searching for justice, wow... it's amazing that the family finally got some answers 💡. it's also wild to think about how one anonymous tip can change everything 😬. just glad the police were able to collaborate with Mexican authorities and make this happen 💪

can we take a step back and think about this whole thing? like, shouldn't we be more skeptical of online fundraisers being used as a way to crack cold cases? it feels kinda convenient that the anonymous tip was sent through a GoFundMe campaign... and what's up with the tipster just sending a picture of Arredondo without any further evidence or proof? 🤔💡 sounds like a pretty fishy story to me, and i'm not buying it just yet.
