A Tip on GoFundMe Campaign Helps Authorities Crack Deadly 2017 Arizona Stabbing Case
An anonymous tip sent to a GoFundMe campaign in September has led to the arrest of Michael Anthony Arredondo, the prime suspect in a deadly stabbing that took place in 2017. The victim, Evin Paulos, was found with over 30 stab wounds in a desert area about 10 miles from his neighborhood.
According to court records reviewed by investigators, Paulos's body was discovered on June 3, 2017, just days after he had gone into the hospital for treatment after a fight with Arredondo. The two men had previously lived across the street from each other and had become friends before their relationship soured.
Arredondo, 34, is accused of stabbing Paulos multiple times before killing him in Mexico, where the two were traveling together at the time of the incident. He was arrested on October 15 after Mexican officials collaborated with US authorities to bring him back to face charges.
Paulos's family had launched a GoFundMe campaign to raise money for his funeral expenses, and it was this campaign that received the anonymous tip about Arredondo's location. The tipster sent a picture of Arredondo to Paulos's sister, Eviein, who reported that she replied with a message asking for evidence.
According to Phoenix police detective Dominick Rostenberg, Arredondo has confessed to the murder but stopped short of explaining what motivated him to kill Paulos or why he stabbed him so many times. The arrest has brought closure to Paulos's family and colleagues, who had been searching for justice for over eight years.

. I mean, who starts a GoFundMe campaign for their own funeral, right? It's like they knew something was up from the start. And now that it's all out, can you believe Arredondo confessed to the murder but won't give any real details about why he did it? Sounds like a classic case of "I'm guilty, but I'm not telling". And what's with the tipster being anonymous? Were they just trying to cover their own tracks or something? It's all so suspicious...

. It just goes to show that even the most unlikely places can lead to important info being shared. I'm not saying Arredondo's actions were okay or anything, but it's all about finding closure for those affected, right?

I mean, what's the deal with that? How does a charity fund for a funeral turn into an anonymous tip that leads to a murder arrest?
