Turkey set to host COP31 after reaching compromise with Australia

🤷‍♀️ so australia is basically just gonna stand in the wings and let turkey take center stage... like what's the point of having a cop summit if you're not even hosting it 🌳💨 anyway, i'm sure anzco will make sure to give turkey plenty of brownie points for doing aussies a favor 💯👍

🤦‍♂️ like I get it, Aus had some internal drama and didn't want to rock the boat with those Pacific island nations 🌴💔. Turkey gets the gig and Australia gets a consolation prize of being president 🤝👑. And who doesn't love a good compromise 😒? The thing is, though, if Aus isn't gonna host COP31, why even try for it in the first place? 🙄 It's like they just wanted to be part of the party and didn't care about actually hosting 💃

Man I'm still trying to process this news... it feels like every time I think we're making progress on climate change 🤦‍♂️, something like this happens. Remember when Australia was all about being a leader on climate issues? Now they're backing out of hosting the summit because some Pacific island nations were worried about the impact? It's just so... déjà vu. Remember when we used to have those Aussie TV shows with the rugged outdoorsmen who would fix anything? Now it feels like Australia is struggling to fix its own problems 🤔. I'm not saying they're not trying, but this compromise has me wondering if we'll ever get our act together on climate change... 🤷‍♂️

Yooo, I gotta say, Australia's just had a major climate summit withdrawal 🤦‍♂️! They dropped out of hosting COP31 in Adelaide and are now supporting Turkey's bid for Antalya instead. It's like they were all like "nah, we don't wanna host" 😂. But seriously, it's a big deal because Australia had been pushing hard to secure the gig.

I feel for Pacific island nations tho, they're already dealing with some major climate change issues 🌪️. The fact that Australia was worried about the impact on them is pretty understandable. And I'm glad that Turkey stepped up and offered to host the main event. It's a good compromise, but it raises questions about Australia's credibility in global climate negotiations.

I think Anthony Albanese did the right thing by prioritizing Pacific issues, tho 🙌. That shows he's willing to listen to others and make some tough decisions. But at the same time, I get why some ppl are upset that Australia didn't get to host it. It's a bit of a letdown 😔. Fingers crossed that Turkey can pull it off and COP31 turns out to be an amazing event! 🤞
