Why is there a mixed reaction in India to the US trade deal?

India and the US have announced a trade deal, which has been met with mixed reactions from various quarters in the country.

The agreement was hailed by US President Donald Trump and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who claimed that it would lead to relief for India from some of Trump's harshest tariffs. However, despite this promise, details about the deal remain vague, leaving many Indians uncertain about its true impact on their economy.

Experts say that one of the main concerns in India is the lack of transparency and clarity surrounding the agreement. "The devil is in the details," said Ajay Chhibber, a distinguished visiting scholar at the Institute for International Economic Policy at George Washington University. "We need to know what specific concessions India has made and what benefits it will receive from this deal."

Trade economist Biswajit Dhar also expressed his concerns about the lack of transparency in the agreement. "The US government is not being forthcoming about the terms of the deal, which is creating uncertainty among Indian businesses," he said.

On the other hand, former chief-of-staff at the President's Council of Economic Advisers, Harry Broadman, argued that the agreement would lead to increased economic cooperation between India and the US. "This deal will open up new opportunities for Indian businesses to invest in the US and vice versa," he said.

However, many Indians remain skeptical about the agreement, citing concerns over issues such as tariffs, trade imbalances, and national security. As one expert noted, "The Indian government needs to be careful not to compromise its sovereignty in the process of negotiating a trade deal with a major power like the US."

Ultimately, the fate of the trade deal remains uncertain, and it will take time for Indians to assess its true impact on their economy and society.

๐Ÿค” I'm kinda glad India's getting a trade deal with the US, but at the same time, I'm a bit worried about how vague all the details are ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™‚๏ธ. It feels like they're just promising us that everything will be fine without telling us what's actually in it for us ๐Ÿ˜’. And don't even get me started on the lack of transparency - it's super sketchy, imo ๐Ÿšซ. I mean, how can we trust that India won't get screwed over by the US? We need more answers, fam ๐Ÿ’ฌ. But hey, maybe Harry Broadman is onto something with the whole increased economic cooperation thing ๐Ÿค. Let's just hope our govt doesn't sacrifice too much of its sovereignty in the process ๐Ÿ™. I'll be keeping a close eye on this one ๐Ÿ‘€

I gotta say, this whole thing is kinda like playing chess - you think you're making moves, but there's always someone else watching from the sidelines, waiting to pounce. See, when we're dealing with big players like India and the US, it's all about the balance. We want to make a deal that benefits us, but not at the cost of our values or sovereignty. It's like Ajay Chhibber said, "The devil is in the details." You gotta know what you're getting into before you sign on the dotted line. And honestly, I'm not surprised Indians are skeptical - it's only natural to want to protect your own interests. The key here is patience and transparency. We need to see what's really going down behind closed doors before we start celebrating or freaking out. ๐Ÿ˜Š

I'm still trying to understand how they're gonna make this whole thing work... ๐Ÿ˜ I mean, Trump's tariffs were pretty harsh, but is India really just gonna get a free pass? ๐Ÿค” It feels like they're not being super transparent about the deal, which is kinda weird considering it's a major trade agreement. ๐Ÿ™ƒ What I do know is that some people are worried about their economy and if this deal is really gonna help them out or just make things worse... ๐Ÿค‘

omg I'm so down on this whole trade deal thing ๐Ÿค” - India's been played by the US, you know? Like, Trump and Modi are just trying to sweet-talk us into signing something that we have no idea what it actually means ๐Ÿค‘. And don't even get me started on the lack of transparency - it's like they want to keep the devil in the details for good reason! ๐Ÿ˜’ experts are right, we need to know what concessions India is making and what benefits we're getting from this deal...it just doesn't add up ๐Ÿ“Š. And let's be real, some folks are gonna get left behind in the process - Indian businesses are already reeling from the tariffs, now they gotta worry about this trade deal too ๐Ÿ’ธ. Maybe they should've negotiated a better deal, idk ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™€๏ธ...anyway, I'm keeping an eye on this one ๐Ÿ‘€

๐Ÿค” India's trade deal with the US is looking shaky at best. The lack of transparency from the US side is making it hard for us to trust that this deal will actually benefit our country... ๐Ÿค‘ I mean, how can we know what concessions India has made or what benefits we'll get if all the details are under wraps? ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™‚๏ธ

idk man, i just can't get on board w/ this trade deal ๐Ÿค”... i mean, india's already dealing w/ so much economic instability, do we really need another thing to worry about? ๐Ÿ’ธ but at the same time, i'm all for increased economic cooperation between india and the us - it could potentially bring in some much-needed investment and job creation opportunities ๐Ÿš€... but wait, what if the us is just gonna exploit india's weak economy and squeeze out its small businesses? ๐Ÿค‘ that would be a total bummer, tbh ๐Ÿ˜”

anywayz, i guess only time will tell w/ this deal, and even then, there's no guarantee it'll work out for india ๐Ÿคž. maybe we should just wait & see how it plays out in practice? ๐Ÿ“Š but on the other hand, shouldn't we be pushing for more transparency from the us gov't? ๐Ÿค” i mean, experts are saying they're not being forthcoming w/ info... that's just shady ๐Ÿค‘

OMG ๐Ÿคฏ I'm literally so hyped about this trade deal! ๐Ÿš€ India is finally getting some sweet relief from those harsh US tariffs ๐Ÿ˜ฉ๐Ÿ’ธ. I mean, PM Modi and Trump are already celebrating like they're on top of the world ๐Ÿ†๐ŸŽ‰. And let's be real, Harry Broadman makes a solid point about increased economic coop ๐Ÿค. I'm all for more Indian businesses investing in the US and vise versa ๐Ÿ’ผ๐Ÿ’ธ. The lack of transparency is probs gonna take some time to figure out tho ๐Ÿค”, but at least it's happening! ๐ŸŒŸ

๐Ÿค” I'm a bit worried about this trade deal between India and the US ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ๐Ÿ‡ฎ๐Ÿ‡ณ. On one hand, it's great that we're seeing increased economic cooperation ๐Ÿ“ˆ, but on the other hand, I wish the Indian government had been more transparent about the terms of the agreement ๐Ÿค. It's like they're hiding something from us ๐Ÿค‘. I mean, who doesn't want to know what concessions India has made and what benefits we'll get from this deal? ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™€๏ธ At least some experts are saying that it could lead to more opportunities for Indian businesses to invest in the US ๐ŸŒ, but I think we need more clarity on that. What do you guys think? ๐Ÿ’ฌ

๐Ÿค” this whole thing reeks of secrecy, which is basically code for "we have no idea what we're doing" ๐Ÿ™…โ€โ™‚๏ธ. India's been burned by trade deals before, so it's only natural that people are skeptical about the US coming in with some vague promise of "relief". ๐Ÿค‘ like that's gonna happen? also, who decides when the devil is in the details anyway? some kind of super secretive committee? ๐Ÿคซ

๐Ÿค” I think the Indian government needs to be super transparent about what's in this trade deal for us to trust that it's actually going to benefit our economy ๐Ÿ“Š. If they're not being open about what India's giving up or getting in return, it's hard for us to know if we're getting a good deal ๐Ÿ˜. Plus, with all the uncertainty surrounding tariffs and trade imbalances, I'm just worried that this deal might be more of a burden than a blessing ๐Ÿ’ธ. But at the same time, if it does lead to new opportunities for our businesses to invest in the US ๐ŸŒŽ, then maybe we can look past some of our concerns ๐Ÿค. Maybe we just need to take a step back and try to find that sweet spot where we get something out of this deal without sacrificing too much of ourselves ๐Ÿ˜Š.
