Ace Frehley's Departure Sealed Kiss's Demise: A Cautionary Tale of Talent, Rancour, and Rock 'n' Roll.

When Ace Frehley left Kiss in 1982, the band began its slow decline. But it's a testament to his enduring contribution that even in retirement, his songs remained a staple of their setlists – Cold Gin still being performed nearly five decades after his departure. It's also a poignant reminder of how much of an enigma Frehley remains: you'd hear Stanley and Simmons's New York accents, but never heard them speaking; the Spaceman, with all its mystery.

As Frehley would later reveal in his 2011 memoir, No Regrets, his departure from Kiss was largely due to internal tensions. The band had always been a fragile entity – divisions emerging even before their final show in 2000. Stanley and Simmons were the self-proclaimed 'businessmen', while Frehley and Peter Criss formed an opposing faction of party animals. It's no surprise, then, that when Kiss announced their final tour, Frehley didn't show up.

Frehley's struggles with addiction have been well-documented – drinking began almost immediately after the band's formation in 1973, while cocaine took hold a few years later. His friends and bandmates couldn't help but worry about his safety, with Simmons literally rescuing him from drowning twice during tours. Such incidents might seem like the stuff of rock 'n' roll legend, but they also underscored Frehley's all-consuming lifestyle.

When he finally got sober in 2006, however, the music began to flow once more. His output slowed significantly after leaving Kiss – producing just three solo albums over a period of three years – before falling silent altogether. Yet, his final decade saw six studio releases and an uptick in quality, most notably with 2018's Spaceman.

As a member of Kiss, Frehley was instrumental to the band's 'monster plod' sound, which captured an unforgettable rhythm. His departure can be seen as a pivotal moment in their history: a turning point from which they could never recover. It was only when all four members released solo material simultaneously in 1978 that we truly saw the full scope of individual talents at play – and it's clear that Frehley stood out as the one who delivered a rock 'n' roll record, not just an instrumental workout.

Frehley may have been part of something extraordinary, but his own life took a dark turn. The price he paid for success was too steep to ignore: substance abuse nearly claimed him more than once.

man i'm so bummed out about ace frehley's departure from kiss 😔 it's like the whole band just fizzled out after that 🎸 and his solo stuff got kinda meh for a hot sec but he came back strong in the end 💪 and his songs like cold gin still get played to this day that's crazy 🤯 what i love about frehley is how mysterious he remains 🕵️‍♂️ you can't even tell what stanley and simmons sound like when they talk lol it's like ace was always the cool kid in school 🔥 but at the same time, his struggles with addiction are just heartbreaking 🤕 it's like rock 'n' roll is all about excess but sometimes that just gets out of hand 🌪️ anyway, kisss final tour without frehley was a huge mistake imo 👎

i feel so bad 4 ace frehley 😔 his story is like, super cautionary. u can tell how much of an impact he had on kiss even after he left the band – cold gin still gets played n all 🎸. but at the same time, it's heartbreaking to think about how much substance abuse almost took his life 🤕. i'm glad he got sober in 2006 & was able to make some amazing music again 👍. it just goes to show that talent alone ain't enough, u gotta take care of urself too 💖

I'm so sad about Ace Frehley's departure from Kiss, it's like watching your favorite band fall apart 🤕. But you know what the real lesson is here? It's not that we should be all friends and never argue, 'cause let's face it, no one's perfect 😂. The problem with Kiss was they were trying to balance their creative vision with being friends, which is a tough combo.

It's like, when you're in a band, your music is like your baby – you gotta put in the work and make sacrifices for it to be the best it can be 🎸. But at the same time, if you're not having fun or feeling creative, then what's the point? It sounds like Frehley got lost in his own life, but I think we can all relate to that – when our passions take over and we lose sight of what's really important.

The thing is, success doesn't have to be a zero-sum game – where one person's gain means someone else's loss 🤝. I mean, look at Ace Frehley, he was a huge part of Kiss's sound and legacy, but he found his way again after hitting rock bottom. That's the real lesson here: that we can always find our way back to what truly matters – our passion, our music, our art 🎶.

Ace Frehley's exit from Kiss was like the final nail in the coffin - it marked the beginning of the end for one of rock's most iconic bands 🤟🎸. His talent was undeniable, but his demons got the best of him and nearly took his life multiple times 😔. I mean, who needs that much stress and chaos in their personal life? The fact that he still managed to create some amazing music despite all the struggles is truly admirable 💯. But it's also a warning sign for anyone chasing rockstar stardom - talent alone isn't enough; you need to take care of yourself too 🤕.

you know what's wild? i just got back from the most amazing food truck fest downtown 🚐🍴 and i'm still reeling from trying that new Korean BBQ truck. their spicy pork tacos were OUT OF THIS WORLD 🔥🌮 anyway, back to ace frehley... i feel bad for the guy, his struggles with addiction are super relatable but also really sad. it's crazy how one minute you're on top of the world and playing sold-out shows, and the next minute you're drowning in your own demons 🤕🌊

You gotta wonder what could've been if Ace Frehley didn't leave Kiss in 1982. It's like, the band's energy and vibe just wasn't the same after that. I mean, Frehley brought this whole other level of rock 'n' roll swagger to the table, you know? And his songs still get played all these years later - it's crazy! The thing is, when you're in a band like Kiss, everyone's got their own demons, but Ace just seemed to be the one who couldn't shake them off 🤖💔.

I don't know if I completely agree with the idea that Ace Frehley's departure from Kiss sealed their demise... 🤔 I mean, they still had great music and iconic performances even after he left, but at the same time, it was probably a major blow to the band's sound and energy. Plus, didn't they get back together again in the 90s and had some pretty solid albums? So maybe his departure wasn't the end of all things for them... 🎸 But on the other hand, Frehley's struggles with addiction are super sad and it's crazy that he was able to turn his life around and make great music afterwards. His comeback in 2006 is like a total redemption arc, you know? So maybe I'm just saying both ways here, lol 🤷‍♂️

💔 I can feel the sadness and nostalgia in this story... it's like, you know when someone leaves a band that changed your life? It can be really hard to let go of the good times and the music they made together 🎸... Ace Frehley was such an important part of Kiss' sound and history, and it's crazy how his struggles with addiction affected not just him but also his friends and bandmates 💕... it's a reminder that even in the world of rock 'n' roll, where excess and partying are often glorified, substance abuse can be a very real and deadly reality 🚨... I think we can all learn from Ace Frehley's later years when he found sobriety and made some amazing music again 🎶

I'm so sorry I missed this thread 🤦‍♂️... anyway, it's crazy how Ace Frehley's departure from Kiss marked the beginning of their decline. I mean, his music still holds up today and his mystery as the "Spaceman" is still captivating. I've always wondered what would've happened if he'd stayed with the band – would they've continued to rock out for another decade or so? 🤔

man i gotta say ace frehley's story is like rick james or axl rose - a cautionary tale about the rock 'n' roll lifestyle 🤘. his departure from kiss in 82 marked the beginning of the end for that iconic band, and it's crazy to think his songs still get played all these years later 🎸. frehley's struggles with addiction are super admirable but also kinda sad - like, you can't help but feel for the guy who was stuck in that cycle 💔. anyway, love how he found his footing again after getting sober and put out some dope music 🎶

I think it's super sad that Ace Frehley's departure from Kiss actually marked the beginning of their decline 🤕. It's crazy how much talent was wasted due to internal conflicts and addiction issues 😔. I mean, can you imagine what could've been if he had stayed with the band? The music would've been so different! 💥

But at the same time, it's also a testament to his determination that he found his voice again after getting sober in 2006 🎤. And those solo albums he released towards the end of his life were actually really good! 👍 I'm glad we got to see him grow as an artist.

I just wish more people would talk about how hard it is to balance rock 'n' roll excess with mental health and addiction 🤝. It's not just a party lifestyle, you know? It can be super dark and isolating. But at the same time, I love that Ace Frehley was able to overcome some of those struggles and create something beautiful 💫.

Anyway, I think his story is a reminder that even in the most chaotic situations, there's always hope for redemption 🌟.

🤩 I mean, think about it... Ace Frehley's departure from Kiss in 1982 might seem like the end of an era, but it actually led to a ton of great solo work from him and even made his songs staples for the band. And can we talk about how mysterious he was? Like, never heard Stanley or Simmons speak? 💁‍♂️ That's some intriguing stuff. The fact that he struggled with addiction is heartbreaking, but at least it made him realize to get sober in 2006 and create some amazing music afterwards. 🎸 It just goes to show that even when things seem dark, there's always a chance for redemption and growth... especially in rock 'n' roll! 😊

🤯 I'm really sad about Ace Frehley's story. It's like, you see this guy on stage, playing guitar and rocking out, but off stage, he's struggling with demons. Addiction is such a hard thing to overcome and it's heartbreaking that he had to go through so much pain. 🤕 At the same time, I'm still amazed by his music and legacy - Cold Gin is like, one of my favorite songs ever! 😍 It just goes to show how talented he was, but also how fragile his life was. 💔

i think it's so wild that ace frehley's departure from kiss is still having such a huge impact on the band's legacy 🤯 meanwhile, it just goes to show how fragile even the most iconic groups can be. like, don't get me wrong, kiss is still an incredible live act and all, but when you think about it, they've never really been able to recapture that same magic without frehley's unique energy 🎸 what's crazy too is how much we know about his personal struggles with addiction - it's like, these rockstars are always portrayed as heroes, but behind the scenes, they're just human beings with their own demons 💔

I'm still amazed how much impact Ace Frehley's departure from Kiss had on the band's overall direction... 🤯 It's crazy to think that even years after his leave, songs like Cold Gin are still being played, it just goes to show how much of a legacy he left behind. And can we talk about how mysterious he was as a person? You'd hear him sing and play with those guys, but you never really knew what made him tick... 🤔

And let's be real, the party animal vs businessman dynamic between Frehley and Stanley/Simmons sounds like something out of a 80s soap opera 📺 I mean, it's no surprise that tensions ran high when they finally announced their final tour. But you know what? It's kind of sad to think about how his struggles with addiction almost took him away from us... but at the same time, it's amazing to see how he bounced back and still managed to put out some great music in his final decade 🎸

I mean think about it Ace Frehley's departure from Kiss basically sealed their fate 🤯. That band had so much potential with four talented guys but internal rancour and egos got the best of them. Frehley was always the wild card and his songs still hold up to this day, no wonder they keep playing Cold Gin even years after he left 👍. It's crazy how some people can be so self-destructive, all that partying and substance abuse took a toll on him big time 😞. His comeback in the late 2000s was amazing though, who knew he still had it? The Spaceman album is still one of my faves 🚀

omg u can feel the drama 🤯 ace frehley's departure from kiss was like a domino effect - everything just fell apart after that 💔 and it's crazy how much his addiction struggles kinda defined his life & music 🎸 like, you hear him talk about how he went from being this huge part of one of the biggest bands out there to struggling with demons 😩 but at the same time u gotta respect how he turned his life around in 2006 and even got back to making music 💖 his last few albums were really solid too, esp that spaceman album 🚀 anyhoo, kiss just isn't the same without him 😔

Ace Frehley's departure from Kiss in 1982 marked the beginning of the end for that iconic band... I mean, it's not like they didn't deserve it 🤷‍♂️. The guy was all about partying and living life on his own terms, but that's what led to some pretty serious issues down the line. I'm no expert, but addiction is a tough thing to beat, and Frehley went through hell with it. It's crazy to think he was able to get sober in 2006 and still managed to produce some decent music... maybe his talent was just too much for him to keep up? 🤔 The band's 'monster plod' sound is still iconic, but let's be real, Frehley's solo stuff wasn't always the strongest 🎸. Still, it's hard not to feel a little bad for the guy, given what he went through... maybe if he'd just kept his demons in check? 😔

omg i feel so bad for ace frehley 🤕 he was an iconic part of kiss and still managed to create amazing music even after leaving the band. it's crazy how addiction can take over your life and i'm glad he got sober in 2006 to start creating again. his solo albums might not have gotten as much attention as some people's, but 'spaceman' is a great example of him still killing it in his final decade 🤘
