Renowned nature photographer Margot Raggett is growing increasingly concerned about the future of wildlife conservation. Over the past decade, she has raised £1.2m for conservation efforts through her Remembering Wildlife series, but now fears that progress may be being reversed.

The Paris climate agreement was adopted in 2015 when the first edition of Remembering Wildlife was published. However, since then, efforts to combat the climate crisis have been rolled back under various governments, including in the US where President Donald Trump withdrew from the agreement in 2020. The decision was later reversed by his successor, Joe Biden.

In the UK, both Conservative and Reform UK parties have pledged to scrap the country's net-zero target of 2050 if they win power. Raggett believes this stance is a worrying sign for the future of nature conservation.

The photographer's concerns are reflected in the latest edition of Remembering Wildlife, which features original and altered images of animals from around the world. These photographs showcase the rapid decline of wildlife populations due to human activities such as deforestation, pollution, and climate change.

Raggett says these images are intended to be provocative, highlighting the consequences of inaction on the environment. She expresses concern that if current trends continue, landscapes may soon become "devoid of wild animals." The rate of extinction is so rapid, she warns, that it could lead to a future where habitats are no longer inhabited by native species.

While Raggett has spent most of her career photographing wildlife in Africa and Asia, she believes that environmental issues closer to home require urgent attention. In the UK, plans for 1.5 million new homes by the end of this parliament have been met with resistance from environmental campaigners, who fear that these developments will lead to widespread destruction of natural habitats.

Raggett is calling for a "massive pause" on these plans, arguing that building on brownfield sites would be a more sustainable solution. She emphasizes the importance of recognizing the interconnectedness between human and animal life, highlighting how species play a crucial role in maintaining ecosystem balance and mitigating climate change.

The loss of biodiversity has left Raggett feeling "impotent," but she remains determined to continue her work as an advocate for conservation. Despite the challenges ahead, she is heartened by the fact that many people still care deeply about wildlife preservation and are willing to take action.

As Raggett looks to the future, she hopes that the Remembering Wildlife project will serve as a catalyst for change, inspiring others to join the fight against extinction and protect our planet's precious natural habitats.

I'm really worried about this 🌎... so much of the world is losing wildlife due to us humans messing things up big time 💔. I mean, we knew climate change was a thing but it sounds like some governments are just making excuses or not taking action fast enough. It's crazy that there's even talk of scrapping our net-zero targets 🤯.

I think Margot Raggett is doing a great job with her photography and advocacy work. Her pics show the devastating impact of deforestation, pollution, etc. on wildlife 📸. We really need to slow down and think about how we're affecting the planet before it's too late ⏰.

I'm all for finding ways to build new homes that don't destroy natural habitats 🏠. Brownfield sites are a better option and I hope more people get on board with that idea. It's not just about wildlife, either – our planet is full of complex systems and if we lose biodiversity, the whole ecosystem falls apart 🌿.

It gives me hope that there are still plenty of people who care deeply about conservation and want to make a difference ❤️. I wish more governments would listen and take action ASAP 💪. We need to wake up and start taking care of our planet!

OMG, I'M SO FREAKING CONCERNED ABOUT THIS!!! 🐒🌎 WE NEED TO DO SOMETHING ABOUT THE CLIMATE CRISIS AND PROTECT OUR WILDLIFE ASAP!! 🚨💚 MARGOT RAGGETT'S PHOTOS ARE TRULY EYE-OPENING, SHOWING US THE DEPTHS OF HOW HUMAN ACTIVITIES ARE DESTROYING THE PLANET!!! 🌪️ IT'S NOT JUST ABOUT THE WILDLIFE, THOUGH - WE NEED TO THINK ABOUT OURSELVES AND HOW OUR ACTIONS AFFECT THE ENVIRONMENT TOO!!! 🤯 I'M ALL FOR BUILDING ON BROWNFIELD SITES INSTEAD OF DESTROYING NATURAL HABITATS!!! 🌳💪 LET'S GET BEHIND MARGOT AND MAKE SOME NOISE FOR CONSERVATION!!! 📢 WE CAN DO THIS, GUYS!!! 💖

🌳💔 I'm tellin' ya, this is super fishy... all these governments rollin' back climate agreements and scrapin' net-zero targets? What's goin' on? It's like they're tryin' to pave the way for mass destruction of our wildlife habitats. I mean, 1.5 million new homes by the end of this parliament? That sounds like a major cover-up to me... all that development is just gonna lead to more deforestation and pollution. And what about all these conservation efforts Margot Raggett's been raisin' funds for? It's like they're playin' with fire, know? 🔥 We need to wake up and realize that this isn't just an environmental issue, it's a human rights issue too... the right to a livable planet. 🌎

🐝💚 I'm so down with Margot Raggett's vibes 🌟 she's got me thinking about how we gotta take care of this beautiful planet of ours 🌎 like, have you seen some of those wildlife pics in the Remembering Wildlife series? they're hauntingly gorgeous and straight-up scary 😱 deforestation, pollution, climate change... it's a whole lot to deal with. I'm all for that massive pause on new home developments in the UK 🏠💤 can't we just build on brownfield sites instead? 🤔 it makes total sense to me. and yeah, Raggett's right - species are EVERYTHING 🔥 they're not just cute animals in a field, they're like, the backbone of our ecosystem 🌿🦋 so, let's all just take a deep breath, grab our cameras (or binoculars 😊), and get to work on saving our wildlife 🐝💪

i feel so hopeless reading this... it's like we're taking two steps forward and one step back when it comes to wildlife conservation 🌳🐦. i mean, £1.2m is a lot of money, but if progress is being reversed, what's the point? we need more people like Margot Raggett who are willing to use their platform to raise awareness about these issues. and yeah, building on brownfield sites sounds like a great idea, but it's hard to see how that would actually make a difference when we're talking about such massive development plans 🤔. i guess what i'm trying to say is, we need more urgency and action in this fight... we can't just keep going through the motions and expecting things to change on their own 💔

I'm so worried about the state of our planet 🌎💔! The fact that we're losing landscapes without wild animals is just heartbreaking 🐰😢. We need more people like Margot Raggett who are using their platform to raise awareness and take action against climate change and deforestation 🌳📸. It's not just about the wildlife, it's also about our own survival 🤝. We need to recognize the interconnectedness between human and animal life and work together to mitigate climate change #WildlifeMatters #ClimateAction #SaveThePlanet 🌟

this is getting scarily bad 🌪️... i mean, £1.2m isn't even enough anymore, feels like we need a whole lot more than that to make a difference 😔... what's with all these backpedals on the climate agreement tho? it's just so frustrating 💔... can we please, for the love of all things wild and wonderful, get our priorities straight 🌿🐰?

🌎💚 just read this article about wildlife conservation and i'm totally bummed 🤕 did u no that since 1970 we've lost 60% of the world's biodiversity 🐠🌳? it's like, what r we even doin'? 🙄 according to margot raggett, the rate of extinction is so rapid that habitats might be devoid of wild animals by the end of this century 🕰️ 1.5 million new homes in the uk by 2025 would lead to a massive destruction of natural habitats 🌆 we need more sustainable solutions like building on brownfield sites 🏠💚 stats show us that climate change is responsible for 25% of species extinctions since 1970 📊🌪️ btw, rememberin wildlife series has raised £1.2m over the past decade 👍 but it's not enough 🤑 we need more action & awareness about wildlife preservation 🌟

oh my goodness 🙌 i'm literally shook by this news! we need more people like margot raggett who are willing to speak out about the state of wildlife conservation 🐠🌳 she's doing such amazing work with her remembering wildlife series and it's so inspiring to see someone using their platform for good 💖 i totally agree that we need to prioritize protecting our natural habitats and recognizing the importance of biodiversity 🌿💚 hope more people take notice and join the fight against extinction 🐾💪

🌿 I'm really worried about what's happening to our wildlife 🦊. If we keep destroying their homes like there's no tomorrow, it's gonna be too late 😔. We need to take care of our planet, not just for us humans, but for all the animals that call it home 🐝. Margot's work is amazing and I wish more people would listen to her 💡. We can't keep going on like this and expecting everything to be okay 🙅‍♂️. We need to slow down and think about the consequences of our actions 🤔. Maybe if we made some changes, like building on brownfield sites instead of cutting down forests 🌳, we could make a difference 🎉. I'm with Margot all the way - it's time for us to take action 💪.

I'm really worried about this 🤕. The fact that we're losing landscapes without wild animals is just devastating. I think we need to take a hard look at ourselves and our consumption habits. We can't just keep building and developing without thinking about the impact it has on the environment.

Those plans for 1.5 million new homes in the UK seem like a recipe for disaster 🌆. Have we really considered the long-term effects of destroying natural habitats? It's not just about saving wildlife, it's about our own future too.

I know Margot Raggett is trying to raise awareness with her Remembering Wildlife project, but it's time for us to take action 💪. We need more than just advocacy and awareness campaigns. We need concrete solutions and policy changes that prioritize conservation over development.

Let's be honest, we're running out of time ⏰. The rate of extinction is alarming, and if we don't make a change now, it could be too late 🌪️.

🐰😔 I'm not surprised to see all these developments. It's like everyone's just pretending to care about wildlife conservation until it affects their pocket. The Paris agreement was a great start, but now they're just trying to roll back the clock and pretend like climate change isn't real. 🌡️

The fact that plans for 1.5 million new homes are already being met with resistance from environmental campaigners is just a PR stunt. They know it's not going to make a difference in the end. It's all about the money and getting those politicians re-elected. 💸

I'm also annoyed that Margot Raggett is trying to be the hero here. I mean, she's already made £1.2m from her charity work – what makes her an expert on the matter? 🤑

I'm low-key freaking out about this 🤯. The idea that we're actually losing landscapes without wild animals is just insane. I mean, we all knew climate change was a big deal, but it sounds like some governments are really trying to ignore it 😒. And now Margot Raggett's photos are out there showing us the reality - rapid decline of wildlife populations due to deforestation, pollution, and climate change... it's not looking good 🌪️. I think what's most worrying is that the UK plans for 1.5 million new homes might actually lead to the destruction of natural habitats. We need to pause this on a massive scale ASAP 🚫 and focus on sustainable building solutions. Margot's message about recognizing our connection with nature and the importance of biodiversity is so true - we can't just keep exploiting the planet for human gain 💔.

🌳 I'm not buying it... no sources on these plans to scrap the net-zero target? What exactly is the plan to build 1.5 million new homes? Who are these parties (Conservative, Reform UK) saying this? What makes them think this won't destroy habitats? Raggett's photos show a decline in wildlife populations, but what about the stats on how many species have been saved or protected since Remembering Wildlife started? Is it just a bunch of old pics with some new ones thrown in? I need to see more evidence before I start caring 😒

🌳👀 I'm literally shaking right now thinking about all these animals losing their homes... 1.5 million new homes in the UK? That's crazy! 🤯 We need more brownfield sites, trust me! 🌲 It's like we're gonna be living in a big ol' experiment on the planet! 😱 I'm so down for Margot Raggett's massive pause idea tho 💪. Can't we just take it easy for once? 🙏
