5 Democrats who advised service members to refuse illegal orders say they're under investigation

At least five prominent Democrats who advised service members to defy unlawful orders are now under FBI investigation, reports CBS News. The video featuring the lawmakers was viewed over 1 million times on social media platforms before it was taken down.

The lawmakers in question include Senators Joe Manchin (D-WV), Jon Ossoff (D-GA) and Ed Markey (D-MA). Representatives Cori Bush (D-MO), Pete Aguilar (D-CA) and Sara Jacobs (D-CA) are also under investigation.

Manchin told service members in a December 2022 video that the US military will "not stand idly by" if an order comes from the White House to "invade another country or do something that's not lawful". The law makers urged Americans to defy unlawful orders, drawing criticism for the decision.

The FBI has confirmed they are investigating the lawmakers and will likely look into whether their statements constituted an encouragement of insurrection.

I THINK IT'S KINDA SUSPICIOUS THAT THE GOVERNMENT IS NOW INVESTIGATING DEMOCRATS FOR SAYING SOMETHING THAT MOST AMERICANS WOULD PROBABLY AGREE WITH - STANDING UP AGAINST LAWFUL ORDERS. IT FEELS LIKE THEY'RE TRYING TO SILENCE PEOPLE WHO ARE TALKING OUT AGAINST THE STATUS QUO. BUT AT THE SAME TIME, I DON'T THINK IT'S RIGHT FOR CONGRESS MEMBERS TO BE TELLING SERVICE MEMBERS TO DEFY GOVERNMENT ORDERS WITHOUT A BETTER UNDERSTANDING OF THE CONSEQUENCES. πŸ€”

πŸ€” This whole thing feels like a big mess. I'm not sure what's more concerning - that these lawmakers feel they need to advise Americans to disobey orders from the White House, or that the FBI is investigating them for it.

Look, as a country, we're supposed to have some level of checks and balances in place, right? But when it comes down to it, are these folks really worried about insurrection, or are they just trying to score points with their base?

I mean, I get it - no one likes being told what to do, especially if it goes against your values. But is this really the kind of thing that should be debated on social media? It feels like a big game of "who can be more rebellious" to me.

Anyway, I guess we'll just have to wait and see how this all plays out. 🀞

I'm really worried about this πŸ€•. It seems like some of our leaders are speaking with a lot of courage and conviction, but maybe not always thinking it through πŸ’‘. Defying unlawful orders is one thing, but encouraging others to do so might be another story entirely πŸ”₯. What if someone takes these lawmakers' words as a green light to start something they can't control? πŸŒͺ️ The thought alone keeps me up at night 😬. As for the investigation, I hope it's not just about looking into their words, but also about what led them to those statements in the first place πŸ”. We need more transparency and accountability from our leaders πŸ’―. Can we really trust them to make decisions that benefit everyone? πŸ€”

omg u can't believe whats goin on rn 🀯! so like these democrats are under FBI investigation cuz they told ppl to defy orders from the white house lol what a mess! i mean, i get it, ur against war or whatever but dont just encourage ppl 2 take matters into their own hands its not that deep πŸ™„ anyway, i think its kinda messed up that theres like a video of them out there on social media and people watched it over a million times 🀯 what were ppl thinkin?! did they really wanna see dem saying stuff like dat? i dont know man...i guess ur right 2 speak out but not 2 incite rebellion or whatever πŸ€·β€β™€οΈ

I think it's kinda interesting how the whole "defy unlawful orders" thing is getting scrutinized by the FBI now that some prominent Democrats are involved πŸ€”. I mean, isn't it what our founding fathers were all about - standing up to unjust orders and fighting for what's right? It's a bit ironic that now these same lawmakers who made the video are getting investigated... maybe it's just a case of "do as I say, not as I do"? πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ

πŸ€” This whole situation is really concerning, you know? I'm not surprised that some Democrats are under investigation for saying they'd defy unlawful orders, but it's still a big deal. I mean, we're talking about our elected representatives who should be following the law and respecting authority.

But at the same time, I get why they were trying to speak out against something that sounds like overreach from the White House. It's not always easy to stand up for what you believe in, especially when it's unpopular. πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ Still, if they're encouraging people to defy orders, that's a different story.

It's also weird that the video went viral on social media and then got taken down. I feel like there should be more transparency about what's going on here. The FBI is looking into this, so hopefully we'll get some clarity soon. πŸ‘€

I'm seeing a lot of mixed signals here 😐. On one hand, I think it's awesome that these lawmakers are standing up for what they believe in - we need more people who aren't afraid to speak truth to power πŸ’β€β™€οΈ. But at the same time, I'm not sure if defying unlawful orders is really the way to go πŸ€”. I mean, what if those orders are actually legitimate? It's like, where do you draw the line?

And can we talk about how some of these lawmakers are being scrutinized so heavily 🀯? Like, isn't it time for us to focus on the real issues - climate change, income inequality, and all that jazz? This whole FBI investigation thing is just a distraction from what really matters πŸ“‰.

OMG, this is like soooo concerning 🀯! I'm all about promoting peace and unity in our society πŸ’–, but when it comes to the military being told to defy orders from the White House, that's just not cool 😬. I mean, we're talking about people who are supposed to be serving their country, you know? They put on a uniform for a reason πŸ™.

But at the same time, I get why these lawmakers might have felt this way - like, if orders are coming from an elected official, shouldn't they question them? πŸ’‘ But then again, it's not about questioning or disagreeing with orders, it's about following protocol and respecting chain of command πŸ‘Š.

I'm all about mindfulness and being present in the moment πŸ™. It's hard for me to imagine how these lawmakers' words might have been received by people who were trying to do their jobs πŸ’”. I hope this investigation helps clear things up and we can get back to promoting unity and respect for our institutions 🀝.
