The highly anticipated horror adventure sequel, Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2, has fallen short of expectations. The game's seven-year development period via two different studios resulted in a title that is both enjoyable and flawed. While some reviewers are disappointed with the loss of complex role-playing elements from its predecessor, others appreciate the game's idiosyncratic and compelling atmosphere.
The game's world, Seattle, is depicted as a film noir-inspired city with a slightly soft-focus aesthetic. The gameplay offers various interactions, such as flirting with exotic bloodsuckers or psychically lobbing sledgehammers at bad guys. The title has reminded critics of classic games like Prototype and Deadly Premonition, which were often praised for their flawed yet fascinating qualities.
In the past five years, the mainstream games industry has been focused on producing polished, high-budget titles that appeal to a wide audience. However, there is a growing appreciation for the value of flawed-but-fascinating games that once formed the backbone of the industry. Games like Mega Drive strategy sim Herzog Zwei and King's Field have had significant impacts on their respective genres despite receiving average reviews.
The resurgence of interest in these types of games can be attributed to the rise of Steam demos and YouTube videos, which allow players to discover hidden gems. The article concludes by highlighting several games that are worth playing, including Pokémon Legends: Z-A, Battlefield 6, and Silent Hill f, as well as offering advice for collectors looking to invest in valuable video games.

i think its cool that theres still room for games to be a little rough around the edges, its refreshing you know? I'm all for those "flawed-but-fascinating" games that used to be the norm back in the day. There's something special about discovering an old game that's still got a ton of character, even if it doesn't look like much on paper
