I'm still trying to wrap my head around how someone can be so on point one minute and completely lost the next
. I mean, 31 losses in their last 50 games? That's just staggering. And you're right, it's all very endearing in a tragic way - like watching a friend struggle with something they love.
I think what really gets me is how confident he was on the touchline, looking so assured and in control, only to be cut down by Marinakis after that last defeat
. It's like he had this "inner circle" of fans who were rooting for him, but nobody else could see it coming.
And can we talk about his record-breaking tenure at Forest? 44 days? I mean, I know it's not ideal, but at least that shows you've got some guts and willingness to take risks. The sacking was so swift and brutal - no words, no explanation... it was like he just walked out of the room with his head held high
.
I guess my biggest takeaway is that the Premier League really does have a way of revealing your true colours (or in Postecoglou's case, lack thereof). He may have won the Europa League, but this league is a whole different beast. I'm not sure what's next for him, but I hope he takes some time to reflect on his game and figure out how to adapt better.
He'll need to go back to basics, rewatch some old footage ( maybe even some YouTube tutorials
), and develop a more nuanced understanding of the game. It's not impossible - just ask Jürgen Klopp or Pep Guardiola for examples
. But Ange Postecoglou has definitely got his work cut out for him this time around
