'We were fitted with remote control penises': Harry Enfield and Kathy Burke on Kevin and Perry Go Large

Harry Enfield, the comedian behind the hit TV show Harry Enfield and Chums, has revealed the behind-the-scenes antics that went into creating one of his most infamous films - Kevin and Perry Go Large.

According to Enfield, the duo's latest escapade was inspired by their previous work on the show, which featured a similar 'Wayne's World' vibe. "We'd done Kevin and Perry on Harry Enfield and Chums and thought it would be fun to make a Wayne's World-y thing while we still had the impetus of the TV programme," he explained.

The film was shot over just 12 days in Ibiza, with the entire production team given a significant budget. However, not everything went according to plan. "We invented the Inbetweeners basically!" Enfield chuckled, recalling how they were able to scrounge up extras from the nightclub crowd instead of relying on paid actors.

The notorious "eyeball" scene, where Perry's character is subjected to an endless barrage of crap while Enfield's character looks on in disgust, was actually a last-minute addition to the script. The original plan was for Kevin and Perry to go on a boat trip with the girls, but when they couldn't find any extras, Enfield came up with the idea to create a fake poo using polystyrene and sweetcorn.

When asked about the film's reception, Enfield admitted that it didn't exactly get the response he had hoped for. "People hated it so much they wanted to burn the cinema down," he said wryly. However, in France, the poster read: "Kevin et Perry, un film trash", which perhaps says more about the French sense of humor.

Despite its initial reception, Kevin and Perry Go Large has developed a loyal following over the years, with fans still quoting lines from the film and admiring Enfield's creative genius. As for Enfield himself, he's now too old for another sequel - although he did attempt to write one once or twice in his youth.

But what was it like working on the set of Kevin and Perry? According to Enfield, it was a wild ride. "We were fitted with remote control penises that worked by remote control," he revealed, recalling how the crew would congregate in a bar at the end of each day's filming and drink Choccy-Woccy - a lethal brandy, vodka and milk chocolate concoction that Enfield credited to co-star Rhys Ifans.

The success of Kevin and Perry Go Large also spawned a few more opportunities for the duo. "Since we were playing a couple of hormonal, randy teenagers," Enfield reminisced, he was approached with several scripts - but most of them were pretty dull. As a woman in her mid-30s at the time, Enfield was thrilled to have the chance to play a 14-year-old boy on screen.

Now, nearly 30 years after its release, Kevin and Perry Go Large remains a cult classic that still holds a special place in some old hearts. And who knows - maybe one day we'll see another installment from the duo. But for now, Enfield is content to reminisce about the good old days of filmmaking, when anything seemed possible and the only thing more fun than playing pranks on your mates was making people laugh.

🀣 man i think kevin and perry go large is like one of those films that u either love or hate its like the ultimate guilty pleasure πŸŽ₯ but honestly who wouldn't wanna watch harry enfield and ralph littlefeather (from tango & cash) get into all sorts of mischief together lol plus i can relate to having to scrounge up extras in a nightclub crowd sounds like ur average saturday night πŸ˜‚ anyhows, im glad its still got a loyal following even if it wasnt exactly well recvd when it first came out 🎬

🀣 still can't believe how much crap that film was... but at the same time, it's kinda nostalgic now? πŸ™ƒ 12 days in Ibiza sounds like a wild party πŸŽ‰ and those remote control penises are just genius πŸ˜‚. Rhys Ifans' drink concoction is on my bucket list πŸΈπŸ‘€. anyway, it's nice to see that some people still enjoy that film πŸ€ͺ

omg like i still cant belive kevin & perry went large didnt do well lol but thats part of its charm i think 🀣 anyone else watch that movie as a kid? i mean enfield is so funny he's always been able to make me laugh even when the jokes r bad πŸ€ͺ and thats exactly what happened with kevin & perry they made some wild vids back in the day but still hold up today πŸŽ₯ the remote control penis thing tho was totes not funny lol πŸ˜‚

omg I'm so late to this thread lol what's with Kevin and Perry being a cult classic tho? I mean I've seen bits of it before but never really got into it 🀣 I guess the "eyeball" scene is kinda iconic now but also super disturbing πŸ˜‚ anyway, I love that Harry Enfield was able to scrounge up extras from the nightclub crowd instead of paying actors - talk about making the most of a budget! πŸ’Έ

I think it's amazing how a movie like Kevin and Perry Go Large has become a cult classic 🀣. I mean, who wouldn't want to watch two idiots getting into all sorts of trouble? It's like they say, the more outrageous the better πŸ˜‚. But what really surprised me is that even with all its flaws, it still managed to develop a loyal following over the years. You've got to give credit to Harry Enfield for being able to think on his feet and come up with some crazy ideas when things didn't go according to plan 🀯. And can we talk about Rhys Ifans' Choccy-Woccy concoction recipe? That sounds like a wild party πŸ’₯. Anyway, it's always great to see old movies being revisited and appreciated for what they are – silly, fun, and totally entertaining πŸ˜†.

lol what a trip down memory lane! 🀣 the eyeball scene is still so cringeworthy πŸ˜‚ but in a weird way its kinda genius? i mean who else can make poop comedy work? πŸ€ͺ and omg remote control penises tho πŸ“Ί that's just insane. also i love how harry enfield just goes with it and doesn't take himself too seriously, he's like the ultimate comedian dude 😎

I'm low-key surprised this film didn't bomb harder πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ. I mean, it's basically just a bunch of guys being idiots on screen, and people seem to actually enjoy that sorta stuff? The fact that it's become a cult classic is just weird to me... but hey, at least Harry Enfield can look back and be all nostalgic about the 'good old days' πŸŽ₯. And who knows, maybe the reason it didn't get better reception initially was because people just weren't ready for how ridiculous it was? Anyway, I'm not gonna lie, the more I think about it, the more I think Kevin and Perry Go Large is actually kinda brilliant πŸ˜‚.

lol what's up with these celebs and their wild methods? 🀣 i mean, Harry Enfield trying to scrounge up extras from a nightclub crowd instead of paying them? that's just crazy talk! πŸ€ͺ but at the same time, you gotta admire his creative genius. like, who else could come up with an eyeball scene using polystyrene and sweetcorn? πŸŽ₯ that's some next level thinking right there.

and can we talk about the cast of characters in this film? from Harry Enfield to Rhys Ifans to... well, whoever played Kevin? πŸ˜‚ these guys are all just so out there and fun to watch. it's no wonder the film has become a cult classic over the years. people love 'em for their absurdity.

anyway, i think what's really interesting is how Enfield has reflected on his time making this film. like, he's been honest about its initial reception (yeah, people hated it πŸ˜‚) but also about how it's developed a loyal following over the years. that's just great to see.

the whole kevin and perry thing just goes to show that even when you're an adult, you can still have a blast being a kid at heart 🀣πŸŽ₯. harry enfield's willingness to poke fun at himself and his own work is really admirable - it shows he's not afraid to laugh at his own mistakes πŸ™„. the whole scene with the "eyeball" was just ridiculous, but in a good way πŸ˜‚. and i love how the film has become this cult classic that people still quote lines from years later πŸ€ͺ. maybe one day we'll get another kevin and perry film or even a reunion show - would be awesome to see those two goofballs back on screen again πŸŽ‰

I mean, what's up with Kevin and Perry, right? πŸ€” I'm not saying they're a bad duo or anything, but come on, an entire film shot in 12 days? That's like the production team saying, "You know what, let's just wing it and see what happens!" And then they have the audacity to blame the critics for not liking it? πŸ˜‚ It's like, if you can't take the heat, stay out of the Ibiza club scene.

And don't even get me started on those remote control penises. I mean, what kind of creative genius comes up with that idea? πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ It's like they're trying to say, "Hey, we're a comedy duo, and we can do whatever we want!" And then they wonder why people don't take them seriously.

But you know who the real winners are? Rhys Ifans. I mean, that guy's been making us laugh for years, and he gets the credit for coming up with Choccy-Woccy? That's like saying the winner of a presidential election is just the person who showed up on election day. πŸ˜‚ Come on.

And what really bugs me is that people still quote lines from this film and consider it a cult classic. I mean, I'm all for nostalgia and stuff, but can't we move on to something more? Like, have you seen The Office or Parks and Rec lately? Those are real comedies, not some fly-by-night thing like Kevin and Perry Go Large.

Anyway, I guess what I'm saying is that while Kevin and Perry may have their fans, they're definitely not the comedy equivalent of a Nobel Prize winner. πŸ™„

can't believe they didn't have a more realistic budget, 12 days in Ibiza? it's like they thought they could just scrounge up extras from the nightclub crowd and get away with it 🀣🎬, i mean, didn't think that one through. also, polystyrene and sweetcorn? come on harry enfield, get your act together! πŸ€¦β€β™‚οΈπŸŽ₯

πŸ€¦β€β™‚οΈ I mean, come on! 12 days in Ibiza? That's not exactly "wild" or "wild ride", it sounds like they just got lucky with the weather and everything else fell into place 😏. And don't even get me started on the budget - a significant one, you say? That's just crazy talk for a comedy film πŸ€‘. I'm surprised they didn't just make a really bad film on a shoestring budget and call it a day πŸŽ₯.

And yeah, the "eyeball" scene is pretty iconic now, but I can imagine how ridiculous it must have looked when it was first filmed πŸ˜‚. I mean, who uses polystyrene and sweetcorn to make a fake poo? That's just... creative πŸ€ͺ. And poor Rhys Ifans has to drink that Choccy-Woccy concoction every day? Unbelievable πŸ’€.

But you know what the real story is? The fact that they actually made something as bad as Kevin and Perry Go Large and it still kinda works πŸ˜‚. I mean, people hated it initially, but now it's a cult classic? That's just proof that sometimes, even when you know you're making something terrible, it can somehow still find its audience πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ.

I'm still tryin to wrap me 'ead around how Kevin and Perry managed to get away with so much crap on screen lol. like, that "eyeball" scene tho πŸ˜‚ I mean, who else could make a 5 min sketch of some bloke getting crap poured down 'is throat look funny? 🀣 and yeah, the fact they just scrounged up extras from the nightclub crowd is pure genius πŸ’‘ I can see why it's developed a loyal following over the years, people love a good laugh and they knew exactly what to deliver. And for all those who didn't get on with it back in the day, I say... what's wrong with a bit of trashy humor? πŸ€ͺ

lol @ harry enfield's wild antics 🀣 i mean who else can say they invented the inbetweeners crew using nightclub extras? πŸ˜‚ it's crazy how that scene actually worked out with polystyrene and sweetcorn, talk about think on your feet! πŸ‘ also gotta love rhys ifans' choccy-woccy concoction - sounds like a bad idea at first but i'm kinda glad they gave it a go πŸ€ͺ anyway, despite the initial reaction to kevin and perry go large, it's amazing how it's become a cult classic. maybe we'll see another sequel someday? 🀞

lol what a wild ride πŸ€ͺ those guys were definitely crazy! I mean, remote control penises? come on! πŸ˜‚ and that choccy-woccy drink sounds like a nightmare 🍹 it's no wonder they couldn't find extras from the nightclub crowd - they'd be too busy getting wasted with Rhys Ifans 🀯

anyway, i think its cool how kevin and perry have become this cult classic thing. people still quote those lines and all that. its like, even if its not everyone's cup of tea, you can't deny the entertainment value πŸ˜‚

omg 30 yrs ago & ppl still love kevin & perry lol 🀣 those guys were so extra! i mean i can understand why people hated it tho, like how many times u watch someone get puked in the face? 🀒 but its cool that its become a cult classic & people still quote lines from it. rhyans ifans is a genius btw he invented choccy-woccy lol that drink sounds so bad πŸ˜‚

omg can u believe harry enfield still makes ppl laugh after all these yrs 🀣 i mean, kevin & perry go large might not be everyone's cup of tea but it's def a film that'll always be remembered for its absurdity πŸ˜‚ and who can forget rhys ifans' infamous choccy-woccy concoction? πŸ’€ sounds like the crew had an absolute blast making it - remote control penises, anyone? 🀣 but what's even more impressive is how harry enfield took a chance on playing a 14-year-old boy on screen when he was probs in his mid-30s at the time πŸ™„ talk about having guts... and it shows! πŸ˜‰

lol i still cant believe harry enfield got paid for all that chaos he created with kevin & perry lol it reminds me of the time my friends and i made a short film in college using nothing but our phones and some dodgy special effects... ended up getting like 50 views on youtube πŸ“Ή anyway, its great to see that even though kevin & perry go large got roasted by critics back in the day, it still has a loyal fanbase. i mean who wouldn't want to watch harry enfield and ralph inebriated and causing chaos? πŸ˜‚

I cant believe how many behind-the-scenes stories you can get out of just one film lol 🀣. It's crazy how they came up with those remote control penises though πŸ’₯. I mean, who does that in real life? And the fact that Rhys Ifans made a special drink for the crew is just genius πŸΈπŸ‘. But you know what really got me - Harry Enfield saying he was approached to play a 14-year-old boy on screen as an actress at the time πŸ€¦β€β™€οΈ. That's some crazy casting right there, mate! Anyway, it's dope to see that Kevin and Perry Go Large is still held in high regard by fans all these years later πŸ™Œ. Maybe one day we'll get a new installment, but for now I'm just gonna enjoy the nostalgia πŸ’–.
